As I read from owner's of the 2010 Vibe herein, concerning the printing of 5-W-30 weight oil in the owner's manual as oppose to what's called for on the oil filler cap 5-W-20. Has there been GM/Pontiac reply of the discrepancy? What about the Toyota Matrix manual?Do we all agree that the engines must use 5-W-20 or 0-W-20 weight oil?PS: I have just compared the two manuals from the PDF copies on this site, and can see that on that oil recommendation page, the paragraphs were switched around.
You can use a 5w-30 oil without any problems. But yes, the toyota engines call for a 0w-20 or a 5w-20 oil. What engine does your Vibe have? The 1,8 or the 2.4?

The 1,8 or the 2.4? <<<<I have the 2009 Vibe basic with 2.4L and auto trans. I only have 3400 miles on the car that's 1-1/2 years old. As I mentioned in past comments, my dealer over filled the oil by 1/2" to 3/4" and I think it could be 5W-30 oil. I took out one quart and still have it above the top dot. I just compared a drop of 5W-20 to the oil in the engine and they both look and pour at the same rate down a sloped smooth surface. So, maybe I now have the correct 5W-20 oil in the engine. However, the original oil in the enginal (from the factory) was so thin I could not see it on the dip stick.
I have a 2009 Vibe 2.4 liter 5Spd Auto.Im pretty sure the oil that came with it was 0w20 as it was about as thick as water. The weird thing is at 600kms there was a black residue on the Dipstick at 900kms it was worse, so I had them change the oil at 1200kms they confirmed it is 5W20 and it looks thicker than the original oil and a different color. Im even getting better mileage now which is just plain strange.Anyone else had this issue?

I am just curious re your on going experience using 5W20. Do you use it all year round? How long have you been using it? Did you notice any consumption with this grade over 5W30? PS Has anyone ever determined why the use of 5W20 was backspec'd only as far back as the 2006 1ZZFE. So what is the difference(s) between the 05 and 06 1ZZFE engines?

Depending on year, either Toyota long life concentrated red or the newer Toyota super long life pink, 50/50 premix. Zerex Asian Phosphated HOAT (P-HOAT or POAT) 50/50 premix might be an acceptable replacement. Other Asian OEM's P-HOAT coolants and Motorcraft deep green P-HOAT would probably be acceptable too.Anybody signed up for a 2009 Vibe at the Gmownercenter.yahoo.com to see which manual they are pushing?
