no more vibes?

Post by boudini »

I went on the Pontiac site to check out what "accessories" I could get with the coupon the dealer sent, and I noticed that Vibes are not listed anymore (every other Pontiac was). I started to dig and try to find one, but it seems there are no more new Vibes available in the US (dont know about our neighbors up north). Unless the site is wrong, and that could never happen...So, I guess we have collectors items now, eh?

There are still a few new ones for sale, stretched thin across the country. Not many though. As for accessories, go into the parts department at the dealer. Their computers have all the accessories and their inflated prices to go with...

Funny, then, that it would be the first one to leave the list on the Pontiac site. We've all owned collector cars since GM flushed Pontiac.

It's probably the first to go because it's the one most people wanted... and, *possibly*, people who had a distrust of GM went for it because it's the same as the Toyota, with lots more cash incentives.

I also went looking when I saw the article about the $7K in dealer incentives for Pontiacs & Saturns. Edmunds.com still allows you to search for them. It shows only 7 available within 500 miles the mid-atlantic

The Vibe was not the last Pontiac built, that title goes to the G6. The last Vibe rolled off the line in August, the G6 continued to be built until early this month. You'd think they would be collectors items but the truth is resale value will hit rock bottom and parts will become impossible to find. *cough* Oldsmobile *cough*...

I agree with you completely Colonel - I have no doubt my prized possession's value is going to drop like a rock - it was nice to dream for all of 2 seconds...

Still is a great car (2-2006's here, no trouble whatsoever, keeping them as long as they'll live) just enjoy the ride.

G3 Wave.It ended production earlier in December, in Canada. We can still buy one of these gems, disguised as a fabulous Chevy Aveo, of the Daewoo Kalos family, of course!I really don't worry about my Vibe's trade-in worth. I'll drive it until it's no longer feasible to do so. Even so, I doubt that the value will go down much more than any other Toyota based car would. Our Vibe is a Corolla/Matrix with a Pontiac badge and body panels, so it will actually do better than most other brands in the value department. Unfortunately for the Oldsmobile brand, they never offered a Toyota clone in their line-up. I wouldn't worry about parts, since most of them come from the Corolla/Matrix, they will be around for a long time.

The worst thing about parts are body panels... They won't interchange with the Toyota. And IIRC, they sure did stamp a lot of them at NUMMI, so um... Junkyard parts and shoddy aftermarket knock-offs it is.The mechanicals are good for a while as far as parts go, with as many Corollas as Toyota sells, I don't see Toyota stopping selling powertrain parts for these anytime soon... .

Keep those nasty dents away, Colonel! We need to take good care of our body panels. Even the body panels should be around for a few years.

well, you can always buy a 2010 Vibe (if you own the 2nd gen) or a gently used first gen version and keep it in the driveway. I'm trying to convince my wife to dump the 2003 and get a 2010 with $6,500 in rebates. She won't listen; what a surprise.

That could be a hell of a looooong term commitment onespeedgreg is proposing there for us and our Vibes, TONY.

You mean, they are all really hard to find, now. I haven't seen a Vibe on a lot in quite some time around this area.

Don't know for how much longer, or where they're going, or what plans are after NUMMI is gone. But at the rate we're making them, they should be available for a while.

Lower balance shafts and oil pump houins assembly? No Longer Available, and GM isn't planning to recontract the part. And the last pontiac produced WAS a G6.... a white 4 door... but it didn't go to any museum or to the Smithsoniam or any place special.....it went to Enterprise Rent A Car.

Junkyard parts and shoddy aftermarket knock-offs it is.United State Federal Law requires all auto manufacturers, including those who have gone out of business or are bankrupt to produce and have on hand parts for a vehicle for a minimum of 10 years. Which means you can still OEM parts(i.e. engines, doors, hoods) for your 2000 Oldsmobile Aurora, 2000 Plymouth Neon, or even a 2000 Ford Escort. As a result and as a means to reduce costs, auto manufacturers produce more parts then they do cars and warehouse the parts for this very reason.

Better find this law, because it is NOT true. They make some extra, but they do NOT have to keep parts on hand for ANY set amount of time. If you CAN find this law, let me know, I have several customers with SSR's who would love to see it. (Lower dash panels were not available 9 months after the SSR went out of production. GM kept promising to get a new supplier, and never did. Now that they have bankrupt the old company, the old company isn't really interested in those legacy cars and probably won't bother building that part.)Good luck in your search! I've looked for it for years, and nobody has ever produced it.

Can anyone say... aftermarket? SSR parts will be produced... like they do for 60s era Malibus and such. That won't happen with the lowly Vibe... so make sure you take really good care of all your bits and Vibe pieces.
