uhh, anyone else ever been airborn in their vibe?

Post by wyatt89 »

so...bad story...I was making a trip from laramie wyoming to boulder colorado for the weekend and ended up making a wrong turn onto a dirt road. Being the rally lover i am i was doing about 80 on this deserted (unfamiliar) dirt road and it was correctly labled with right angle signs where they were necessary, then all of a sudded in crest a hill and about 30 yards in front of me is a right angle right turn.stomp on the brakes, i realize im not gonna stop in time and there is what appears to be a fairly large cliff in front of me O_Oi decided that if i tried to turn i would end up rolling the poor vibe and bad things would happen then so i just went straight and i ended up getting about 3-4 feet of air and traveled about 15 feet...it was a hard landing to say the least but i was SOOOO lucky that there was nothing down there but grass and a fence a long ways away...jesus, it was the scariest car moment ive ever had but needless to say, the vibe is still kicking even though it has a huge chunk of grass stuck to the frame under the front...so ive learned my lesson about going fast on dirt roads that im unfamiliar with...>_<

Yikes! Be careful please. The poor Vibe probably needs an alignment now, hopefully that's all.

Jesus, Wyatt! Better get your suspension looked at as well as a complete underbody inspection. Hope don't have any unseen problems arise. One side note if you had an AWD you could have pulled the e-brake, turned, hit the gas and drifted your way out of it. On second thought, maybe not.

Good Luck and keep us updated.

You might need to replace your front driver's seat as well.

Glad to hear your ok, Having it checked out would be best having 3000+ pounds land at a dead stop is never a good thing you might have bent a few bolts up the car that holds the suspension.

Scary for sure! Did you need a tow or could you drive away? Man I hate things like that...Here is mine, not as scary as that though... I took a turn so hard in a city street turn around once in my Cavalier Z24 I got a rear wheel off the ground!

That's awesome If that were pavement though, I'm sure you would've blown at least the front struts and dented the oil pan or something.

I would highly suggest getting it looked at, just to make sure there's nothing wrong. I would hate for you to be driving and have something bad happen, like the oil pan dropping... The stealership can at least tell you if anything is broken.

Yep, i was going up this hill by my house and a big white truck comes over the hill on my side of the road. I had to go into the ditch and hit a feild entrance and go air born.

When I was in college, one of my roommates was driving home from a New Year's party, taking the back roads to avoid DUI checkpoints. He thought he was coming up to a normal four way intersection and was going to just blast right through without slowing down. Turned out, it was a "T" intersection. He got some major air in his '91 Cougar and landed in a field. Car was totalled. He made it out ok.

So how much hang time do you think you got? Glad to hear you're ok. Just remember our vehicles aren't designed to fly. Hope there isn't significant structural damage.
