I purchased used a year ago and i replace my clutch a week ago, by now i've gathered this is a problem with the GT. Does any one know why this is? I replaced with an after market and once in awile when i start on an incline i can smell the clutch burn like before i replaced. i'm wondering if this problem will recur? i've driven standard all my life and never had this issue. Thanks for any response.
welcome aboard!someone else was kind enough to destroy my original clutch about 9,000 miles into my gt's life. since then i've put 26,000 miles on the replacement factory clutch and i haven't had a bit of trouble with it. based on what i've read here it looks like the lifespan of the factory clutches averages somewhere between 30 and 40k.

Welcome i have an 03 GT abyss and still on factory clutch at 109,000 k took it in for my 100 k service tech said still good shape so far, I have found alot of people have a hard time figuring out really just how to drive a GT yo ureally have to be accustom to driving a clutch in the first place not t mention these cars dont have alot of torque so that alone will wear them down but, there is alot of younger people buying these cars some there first car so makes since a clutch would dissapear alot quicker!
Ok , here's what you need to do to solve your problem. You need to take your ride to your local drag strip and do a couple of run's and you should be all good...nuvibe

That does seem a terribly short lifespan.
it depends on how you drive and what seems to be luck of the draw. I had mine for 32K miles. traded the car in. the new owner then had to replace the clutch after about 10K miles. one thing about the GT was once I figured out the shifting points, the smell and slipping went away (most of the time). only up hill starts, crazy icey roads, or something where i had to hold that clutch in longer was there burning. however, before i figured out the car/clutch, i probably had half its life burnt!
