Just bought a beautiful 06 Vibe Base with 185,500 miles for $3200, this thread has definitely helped reinforce my decision to buy it! I was hoping to get at least 4 years/50k miles out of it, and from what I've read here I think that's a reasonable expectation! It's in excellent condition, I took it in for a pre purchase inspection before buying it and the shop even let me look under it... absolutely beautiful and I'm so excited to finally have one!

Hah. Last year I bought almost the same car with about the same expectation. I paid $3300 for mine, and my goal is for the capital cost to be less than $1000/year. So far I've put about $300 into repairs, maintenance and appearance and am real happy with the car. The body style is exactly what I need. And I used this forum for justification, too.

Five years ago I bought a '98 Outback with similar expectations for less than $3000 including new tires and repairs over the years. I hope the Vibe gives similar duty.

83.4k miles. 03 Base Vibe, Automatic.
Nothing special, no mods, bought new, now daily driver for babysitter and kids around town; used only about 10 (important) miles per day. Lots of cold starts though. Hope it lasts until kids take school bus... and then until they learn to drive :)

I'm at a shade over 211k miles on an 04 GT. Bought it in 2006 with about 25k miles on it. Been a GREAT car. No sign of slowing down.

Ok. A legitimate post pertaining to the topic this time. Our son's Blue 2009 Vibe Gt just turned over 100k miles last week. This is the first car in several decades where we've had one turn over. He beats the crap out of it and it takes it and says "give me more" Rarely gets a bath, loaded down with electronics & tools all the time, and drives at very high speeds for long distances (I-75 in Michigan). Usually we replaced a vehicle, got one totaled, or simply never drove it enough to get mileage that high. Wife's 2009 G8Gt is sitting at 42k miles, my 2009 Vibe GT at 26k miles, the older 1992 F-150 just turned over 60k miles, And 2014 Silverado is at 16k miles.

I just hit 150k on my 2003 Vibe GT. I bought it 4.5 years ago with 82.5k on it.

Repairs have been super minimal. The starter died last spring ($99 and 15 minutes to swap) and the AC compressor went out 2 summers back (did it myself for around 600 including a new condensor for good measure). Those are the only necessary repairs in 70k miles of use. But I like having a project to work on so I replaced the front struts (leaky but not dire) the front wheel well covers, restored the headlights, cleaned and detailed the engine.

It's the silliest thing, the car is so reliable that I'm looking for things to do for fun on my own time rather than having to repair stuff that breaks. I'm getting ready to do the rear suspension (again, I've got to scratch the itch), brake system flush, coolant flush, spark plugs, belts, and all new rotors.

Also, I put a whole new sound system in it 2 years back - component speakers in the front (75W RMS), 3-ways in the back (75W RMS), and a 10" sealed sub (600W RMS ) in the hatch. The sound is absolutely incredible, all for about $600 and a full day of installing it.

A small part of me is bitter because this old car is so freaking reliable and has so much life left in it that I can't justify buying a new car (the Subaru Crosstrek has been enticing me... basically a newer version of the Vibe in so many ways).

My only compaint is that my clear coat is totally gone on the top, and it's getting pretty bad the hood, tailgate, and around the windows on the doors. I'm so tempted to get her repainted but I fear it will look weird with the faded trim, and I have a hard time justifying the cost on a 15 year old car - even if it is unbelievably reliable.

155k miles now.

We just did our seasonal drive from AZ to CO. We had a hellacious tailwind, 50 mph at times, and got our best fuel economy ever--45 mpg for the 850 mile drive. That was with a full load of cargo and with the A/C on for half the time (it was 105 when we left AZ).

We climbed Wolf Creek Pass in CO for the first time with the VIbe, and it made it up, going the speed limit, without shifting into 2nd (automatic).

We continue to be really happy with the "new" Vibe.

Just hit 200,000 today! 2005. I bought this car in a pinch dirt cheap with a salvage title two years ago thinking it'd just be a stopgap until I could afford something else, but here we are. Other than a bad oil pressure sending unit, it's been incredibly reliable and practical. Clearly I hit the jackpot. Now I have no intention of giving it up. 299,999 anyone?

Image Image

In fact, I think I'm driving with the soul of two Vibes. The rear driver's side door came off a red one.

We just bought a 2008 in fairly good shape for $2000 with 285k on it. Guy sold it because he got a dent in the door (I found a guy with the same blue color door for $220 and going to stick it on).

So, this car has gone 25,000 miles per year since it was born. We plan to put about that much on it in the next year. Hopefully no issues!

I bought mine in February off my great uncle. He was the first owner, bought it new in 2005. He must have only done milk runs, because I bought it at 112,560 km. It's now at 118,600-something (didn't see it this morning).

Purchased a 2010 Vibe with 165,245 miles on it last week. Everything works as it should. Plan to take it to 300,000 miles, since it has the same 2.4L engine as my 2003 Camry with 300,200 miles, which I sold now.

Frosty has 183k and the only parts I've replaced are front rotors, belt tensioner and starter. All other engine, body and suspension parts are original. It doesn't use any oil at all.

Stealth has 113k and has been totaled and rebuilt three times now. Can't list all the parts that have been replaced, but all have been due to damage and not wear. It uses maybe a pint between 7,500 mile oil changes.

Silver only has 103k, is all original and doesn't appear to use any oil. I haven't been driving it much since I got Stealth repaired. I plan on putting winter tires on Stealth and driving it when it snows, and driving Silver when the roads are dry.

105,xxx miles. '09 base Vibe, 5 speed. Bought it new in '09

I have adopted it for the past 3 years after daughter then son used it for college. Jen bought her own vehicle and John is overseas so now the Vibe is my daily driver, especially in the winter when my '12 Chevy 2500 crewcab doesn't get driven on the salted roads.

Surprisingly very little rust under the Vibe considering how heavily New Hampshire pours salt on the roads.

Fun little car. zero problems since new :D

I've got 183K on an 03 Vibe base. I bought it new and has been a great car, no major issues just routine maintenance. My kids learned to drive on it, and my son now has it at college. Once he graduates in May I hope he wants something newer so I can get it back. I love the utility of this car!

My '07 just turned over 160,000 on a highway trip to Arizona. Lightly loaded car with light headwinds, mostly on two-lane roads, average speed 60 mph, got nearly 40 mpg on the 800+ mile trip.

154,429 in my '03 Lava base. Bought her in 05 in Anchorage, drove her to St. Louis, up to Wisconsin, over to Denver, then east to D.C., Philadelphia, NY, back to ST. Louis. Other than a catalytic convertor, battery and 3 door handles (all broke within a week of each other!) she is all stock with routine maintenance. The only mod is a small CB radio I installed when driving from Alaska for emergencies back when cells were still bricks and unreliable. I'll probably restore her before I ever get rid of her.

Bought my '09 3 years ago with 58,000 miles. Just replaced tires (I assume 2nd set) at 98,000 miles and then the water pump went--Damn, I wonder why so early? Drove her for a few days with the bad pump until I could diagnose the sound, never stranded me. New brakes all around as well, rears were low, fronts still looked good but replaced them anyhow. Currently sitting at 102,000 miles and counting and driving 450 miles a week these days.

OK. So I dreaded this day but it finally came. Turned over 30k miles the other week :( 2019 will likely see the most mileage on my 2009 Vibe GT as I'm taking it down to Florida in February PLUS I'm leaving the service sector of my union and will jump on the construction side for only a couple years I decide to continue working. Retirement is right around the corner! This means NO MORE company vehicle ..... will have to use my own! I'll rotate between the 2004 & 2009 Vibe GT's so they both get driven regularly.
