Post by jake75 »

June 27, 2006 1:39 p.m.General Motors Corp. said Tuesday that for a short time it will offer 0% financing for up to six years on many of its cars and trucks as it tries to clear inventory off lots in preparation for the new model year.Company officials said the financing would be offered on Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac and GMC models during a sale that begins Thursday and ends July 5.

Yes, I believe the Vibe is included. I got an email a couple days ago about this offer from a car dealer who had given me pricing information on a Vibe earlier. His email indicated that it was in lieu of other incentives so presumably the $500 regular rebate and $1000 'conquest' rebate that we got last month (from a different dealer) wouldn't apply with the free financing (but the $3500 we got off with the GM Card should still hold).

In my region, the GM 72-hour sale appears to be 0% financing for up to 6 years with no additional cash incentives on the Vibe. For specific details for your geographic area, U.S. customers, go to http://www.pontiac.com, click on 'current offers'.Canadian customers, go to http://www.gmcanada.com and click on 'current offers'...

Do you know of any incentives in Mid to late July if I pay cash for the car? Our "current offers" say For Cash Allowance or APR, take retail delivery by 7/5/2006. Includes Bonus Cash where applicable"I just don't think the car will get here by then...I think once it leaves NUMMI it gets loaded on a train, then on a cargo ship...

By mid-July GM may be even more desparate.I am sure this 0% deal is only available to "well qualified buyers", perhaps defined as those who could afford to pay cash is they wanted to. A $20,000 Vibe with a $1,000 rebate is $19,000. Financed at 6.9% for 72 months is about 318.51 a month.A $20,000 Vibe with -0- rebate financed at 0% for 72 months is $277.78.That is a savings of $40.73 a month.A cash buyer would look at this as beign able to invest the money at perhaps 4% after tax so the savings will be significantly less - by my calculation $19.44 a month.I would be a lot more inclined to trade if GM offered me a rebate equal to what it is costing them to subsidize 72 month 0% financing. On a $20,000 loan with a money cost of 6% I calculate this to be about $3,600, and it may be more as I dont know if GM can borrow money at 6%.

Thanks! I'll see just how desperate they are Ordinarily, I could never afford to pay cash for a car, but I just did a Refi. to get rid of my ARM and consolidated some debts to get money for the car. 30 years starts all over again....ahhhhh... After paying for Neptune, it's back to being broke but hey I'll be broke with no debts and driving around in a really cool car

Guess the goods news is debt at a lower interest rate and deductible, but the bad news is having a mortgage for another 30 years. I paid off my mortgage in less than 20 years by making extra payments. Not having that monthly obligation is a relief. You can do it if you try.

I bought mine this week thanks to the 0% financing! I gave up the $2000 in rebates (Conquest + cash) and the breakeven was a mere 32 months... which was a little unrealistic for me at nearly $600 a month I was really hoping for the cash & the 0%... but the Vibe was calling me

$1,000 earnings from GM card? That's really good! Ours was $220.93. I guess it depends how much you use the card. We never used it much, but I should check if we have any more on it since it's one of the debts we consolidated when we ReFi'd.

What's the deal with the conquest rebate? Is there a limit per dealer so they only use it if deemed necessary to close the sale? I don't see it on the GM website either.

I was wondering about that myself... all the dealers I spoke with offered it to me, but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere else!
