Some more 'dumb' questions...

Post by viberationz »

By now I am sure that everyone is laughing at my questions - well I now have more reasons to keep shaking your heads...Q1: When I order the Injen CAI is this *ALL* I need to install - I have no idea what I am doing - and don't worry - I won't be installing it myself. I just seen a picture of it - and not too sure if it's all I need - B/C The 'filter(?)' will be placed right at my battery... Does anyone have pictures of the CAI setup - before installation?Q2: Where do I buy this chip for my Vibe that claims to add the +20HP... I'm willing to blow some money to see if the damn thing works... BTW Canadian shops are MORE THAN WELCOME! But I will also consider ordering US.Q3: I want dual's *REAL BAD*... Magnaflow is no longer an option - so I'm now looking into a custom exhaust - Can I get the same 'effect' - Magnaflow claims something like 8.7 added HP...Now that I have joined GENVIBE.COM I am finding myself wanting more and more for my car - I'm jelous of all you Viber's with 'mods'... Help me out? Thanks a bunch!

Sorry I can't help, but I wanted to say don't worry about anyone laughing at your questions. They sound perfectly valid to me, and I'm not shaking my head- I don't even know how to answer them! (But I'm sure someone who does will post).

http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1281how to install injen. the filter goes beneath the batery by the way.those chips that claim all the power.. don't bother. they just make your car run rich on fuel. ultimately ruining your catilic converter. but to answer your question, ebay. they sell them all the time

Cannot comment on the Vibe CAI because I do not have one on the Vibe but with other cars I have or had, yes everything you need is in the kit. With chips or any mod, the only way to truly know what HP it ups the engine is to Dyno the car. However my rule is this, if you can feel the increase you are doing good! So keep that in mind, simply adding up 20 for a chip and 10-15 for a CAI is a baseline but not real proof.Just doing mufflers will not give you a gain, you will need to do a free flow cat and mufflers and for even more gain, header, cat and mufflers. Exhausts i.e. mufflers will usually gain sounds and looks but not power, you MAY see 1-3 HP if dynoed and under wide open throttle.

Wow - Alot of responses really quickly! Thanks! I was really hesitant about the INJEN CAI - Once I popped the hood tonight and checkout out the situation it just started to get confusing... I have checked out this place ----> http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1281 unfortunatly none of the pictures worked. I know I won't be doing any of the work myself I just want to know what is getting done to my car - I trust what you guy's tell me more than what the sales man is trying to sell, they usually bs their way through a sale anyways... I just want to know what I am getting into! You know to try to look nawledgible and safistikated... Ha. Ok that was a bad one...

It comes with pictured instructions but they kind of suck. You CAN get it done with them though. It's not really that hard, you could do it yourself or with a buddy.

AH! You have faith in me! I'm currently trying to find a place to order CAI locally... I like what PTunning.Com has to offer - But ofcourse... US! Do I have room for another question?! (I know... I know nothing).I had asked in a different forum if all I need is the Eibach lowering springs (again don't even know where to buy them) but someone recommended a rear sway bar - Mind if I ask why? And what is the different between the factory one?If I lower my car my rim's might not fit!?

My Vibe is bagged with 19's. and it will drive fine all the way down, so trust me, they'll fit fine with a 1-2" drop! You can find just about everything on ebay and many places will ship outside the US. Also, the rear sway bar is supposed to help the handling by tightening the rear end and preventing it from flexing or swaying. I don't know that it actually does anything, but I have one.

Got a lot of stuff a LOT cheaper than it would have cost me too by using ebay and craigslist. Got the rims here from another member for cheap, got the supercharger on ebay for 1'2 what GM charges, and got the bags on craigslist for about 1/4 of what they normally cost! You just have to watch and wait!

We're here to help, these aren't bad questions at all. Ans 1:As others said, yeah everything is included. It isn't too difficult to install, but those pictures from that thread were a lot more helpful than the ones Injen provided. When I get home I can check to see if I saved them on my computer. The filter will be installed directly above the fog light, under the battery. Some tips on the install to make it easier... Place the front driver side on a jack stand and remove the wheel. This will give you more space to access the tight area to install the filter. Sliding the filter onto the pipe was the most difficult part for me. When I cleaned the filter a while back, I found that adding a little soapy water to the filter where it slides onto the pipe makes it 100% easier to install! It will just slip on. Let us know if you have any other questions.Ans 2:As others said, don't waste your money.Ans 3:I love my Magnaflow cat-back system. If you want a dual, just make sure you can get a quality cut out on the rear bumper. I've seen some crappy jobs where either they don't cut one out so the sides don't match, or they cut an ugly arch on the passenger side and is obvious that they just cut it out.I totally agree with you about genvibe influencing your desire to mod your Vibe. I read about the CAI a few years ago and how everyone loved it, so it made me want to get one badly. Then all my other mods came along with time as well.

Here is a thread on the ones that will work http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=20250 But these will cost upwards of $800. There are a few Vibers here that had/have them currently. I haven't hear anything bad about them to my knowledge.

Gonna swap out the front hoses with rubber instead of the plastic, too. Got plenty of time now since it's dead, might actually do that today! I posted a couple of videos on my "Air Bags Part 1" thread. http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...age=1 (bottom of the page) They're short and small, but will have to do for now. More will come, just remind me when you see "The Vibe Lives Again!" thread!

viberationz-The reason to have a rear sway bar is to use the rear end of the car to increase the roll stiffness in order to keep both drive wheels on the ground. A stiff sway bar will actually reduce cornering traction on the end of the car it is installed on, this being the compromise to allow you to put more power down coming out of a corner. i.e. you sacrifice rear traction to keep the inside drive (front) wheel more firmly on the ground so that you can put more power to it before spinning it. If you only want to race in a straight line, there's no reason to have one.If you really want to put the power down early, you want a limited slip differential (don't know if one is available for the Vibe, but Quaife offers a pretty large line of them and there's one available for the Celica GT-S that may fit the Vibe GT). That will keep the inside wheel from spinning whether it unloads or not. Then you can put a nice hefty sway bar on both ends of the car and make the it corner flatter and "take a set" quicker.

That does answer my sway bar question - thank you. Although I'm not too sure I need it with my everyday granny driving I'm sure I will buy a rear sway just for the hell of it. Oh man - The more I come on GenVibe the more I can't wait for summer to drive my Vibe again...
