New member, proud new Vibe owner :)

Post by alyssa »

Hello everyone!

My trusty 2000 Honda CR-V was stolen in broad daylight while I was work about a month ago. The shell of my car was found in a residential area 3 days later--no engine, transmission, radiator, instrument panel, passenger seat, speakers, etc etc, so I had to buy a new car. So now I'm the proud owner of a black 2004 Vibe (Moons & Tunes) with 149k. I've been browsing these forums a bit to help me install a new head unit, clean the MAF & TB, and replace the naaaassty cabin filter. I also got it detailed inside and out and got the windows tinted last week. Next on my list is to check the rear differential fluid.

Here are some pics:

Welcome to GenVibe, Alyssa.
Thanks for the pix. Love the wheels. Keep it this shiny, ok?

I noticed your lumbar support. I hide mine: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=43419

Welcome! Your car looks good, a few bumps and bruises, but looks good overall! The wheels do look nice on it. Much better than the hubcaps it probably came with. Neat idea on the radio. When I bought the double DIN for my son's Vibe, we got one that the face could be removed. Now he normally stores it in the car, but at least maybe they won't attempt to break in if they see it is missing.

Good luck with it!

Took the faceplate off the stock head unit and made a theft deterrent out of it

I have never seen this trick with the faceplate before. I would enjoy if you would started a thread about this topic or tell us more. How did you get it off of the old unit AND how do you fix it so that it stays in position - velcro, or what ?

I usually don't care for most of the aftermarket wheels but yours look fantastic. I have seen this model in gun metal but I much prefer the silver you have.

Also, note the optional ABS brakes which I don't see that often in the Vibes.

Welcome to GenVibe! That certainly sucks about your CR-V, but from the looks of it, you have found yourself a very nice replacement! Thanks for posting pictures of it right away ;)!

Thanks for the feedback everyone! My dad was nice enough to install a back up camera yesterday for me too. Won't get to try it out for a few days though, just had a major surgery so I can't drive for a week. :( :( :(

Ohhh no I wasn't even aware of that. I haven't received anything in the mail, probably since the title was just switched over. Thanks for the heads up!

Heh, the old stock face plate fits over it only because the new head unit didn't quite fit in perfectly, even with the conversion kit, so there's a small gap to the left and below the unit. So I took the faceplate off the old head unit, glued on all the buttons, and snapped off all the plastic except for the parts that would fit into the gap. The gap is masked with some black electrical tape that moves out of the way when I put the old faceplate on. I'd imagine that you could maybe get some mounting putty to keep it in place otherwise.

And thanks for pointing out the ABS brakes, I didn't even notice! Which reminds me I still need to decode all the RPO codes in the glove and figure out what other goodies I might've missed haha.
