Turn it on and wait for cool air?

A/C is used year round, for either straight cooling, or defogging the windshield.

Check for loose wires. The wire for the green backlit ring was flakey on my old 06 Matrix.

Best place to get a new socket if you need one is at a junkyard.

You have to drive some distance for the ECU to relearn. Around 50 miles before the engine starts behaving properly again, has been my experience. Some of the AWD suspension components are long out of production and nearly impossible to find, even in junkyards. So the car you're buying had better have no rust on the undercarriage.

I'm pretty sure that none of the switches are backlit. Only what's in the center stack.

The bezel around the radio pulls straight out with your bare hands.

The HVAC fan speed knob pulls off revealing a screw underneath to remove that bezel.
