Replacing the belt isn't so bad. I've done it at least twice on our Corolla... same engine, same procedure.

I want to bump this back to the top. There aren't many covered bridges around here. The ones we have are pedestrian only... and mostly on golf courses. You'd probably be hard pressed to find much of *anything* built before 1920, too, let alone a covered bridge. :idea: Perhaps this could help someone...

Although, I was considering putting a manual boot on the auto shifter, even before this happened.

Old thread, I know.... I currently live in Florida after moving here for college in '99, but I grew up in Michigan near Ludington. Most of my immediate family is still there. So, my Vibe may be seen up there from time to time.

As runningslow mentioned. If the Grand Am and Sunfire are like siblings, then the Vibe and Corrolla are like fraternal twins raised by different parents. Just like my Vibe and the wife's 2005 Corolla. :D Once you pop the hood, its hard to tell them apart. (besides the paint color that is.... :roll: )

The labor to put in a junkyard transmission is the same as putting in a remanufactured one. So maybe looking at the total cost the remanufactured one is not that much more expensive. That logic has cost me a lot of money over the years - e.g. it cost as much to put down $9 tile as $2 tile so . . . ...

Since its digital, I also don't think you have to worry about the odometer, as I believe that information is stored elsewhere (PCM?) and would appear correct on the newer cluster. <-- I could be horribly wrong about that . :? I at least have the revised version with the white numbers that are clearly visible, but I have a hard time distinguishing the increments between them in the bright sunlight. I'd love to be able to connect to genvibe via an app, or even just a mobile version of the site. Accessing the full website via my phone's browser works, but its a little awkward.

Not a lot of problems with them that I've seen, but if the fluid has not been changed, I would look at changing it. The owners manual recommends changing it every 60,000 miles if it has had "severe service" usage. I would probably drain the pan, fill it with ~3 quarts, run it a while, and...
