You need enough space under to unhook everything, then lower the car back down to the lowest height on the jackstands to pull the assembly out the top. I recently did mine and unbolted the engine from the transmission, then pulled the engine out alone out the top. Putting the engine back in alone is...

It would be really, really hard to prove the shop was negligent at this point. You can't alter the PCM. You'd have to get a stand alone system for a mere $1300, and then tuning is $400-800 usually. A piggyback wouldn't touch the EVAP system, and I'm not sure a stand-alone would, either, not without massive amounts of modification.

The heat shield is pretty critical to protect the fuel tank and cargo from exhaust heat. Just hold the heat shield over the muffler and see if you can guess which holes are to the shield.

If you get an alternator, Mitsubishi and DENSO know how to rebuild them to last as long as the factory one. Don't cheap out on it, or you'll probably end up claiming several warranties on alternators.

Did you shift through the gears before checking fluid levels? If you set it to a low enough point, you will damage your performance. You need an aftermarket computer to change it. I know multiple ones can do it, but usually you're looking to spend at least $1000 on a stand-alone, then probably another $400-800 on dynotuning to make sure you don't go too low.
