Re: 2004 GT VVTL not working

If it's not throwing a code that's a concern it should be a P1693. The VVTL will not engage unless the motor is warmed up. Check the connector on the right side of the engine just behind the TB. If it's ok pull the Actuator out and test to make sure it's working. You need a long extension to get at ...

The only FWD car GM has made worth owning imho, is the GEO, Vibe and maybe a few Saturns all because of Toyota. Have you hit lift yet? You need to wrap the engine out to 6400 rpms. I bought my 03 GT with 130Kmiles 6 months ago. When I tried it the first time while test driving the car popped a P1693 (code for Lift not working). The compression was good and bought the car anyway for $3800. The Lift Actuator, H...

Any type of chemical treatment won't last. Running that thick of oil will cause other issues in the long run. If you are getting good MPGs I wouldn't bother with doing anything until it dies. Check a junk yard for a 03-06 VIbe/Matrix AWD/4WD Rear Diff. Rebuilding one maybe more work than it's worth. It's a common problem because they tend to leak around the outboard seals. The 2zz swap won't be that bad with the MT. You can put a 03-04 XRS/GT GT ECU in (the 03 has a lower LIFT point). The Harness for the 03-04 1zz vs 2zz is almost identical you may need to add a couple of wires for the LIFT. But if you can find a 03-04 XRS/GT harness that would be the way to go.

It's very simple unless the rotors won't release. Then you'll need to use a couple of bolts and 4 nuts to pop them off. Even then it's only a 1.5 hour job.

I'd say no. Check you exhaust pipe make sure there's nothing black and sticky. That could be a sign of oil coming out the exhaust which could point to an engine issue. Also pull the spark plugs and check them. They should be a little greyish.

The 03 GT is the way to go. You won't be disappointed, 6200 Lift and 180Hp. Run a compression test, you want to see 200+ on all four. Hit Lift after warmed up and make sure there isn't any issues there. If it pops a code and doesn't engage it could be just plugged up. It's an easy fix just messy.

I have no idea if it will work in the 03 GT. However there has been some reported issues dealing with the JDM sensors on the JDM motors with the Vibe GT ECU. Also if you plan on using the JDM ECU there will be issues there because I don't believe they are OBDII. You'll need a special code reader.
