Welcome! If the oil leak is on the rear of the engine on the passenger side, check the timing chain tensioner. Very common for the O-ring to fail and oil to leak out from around the tensioner on the 1ZZ engine. The tensioner can be replaced or the O-ring can be replaced on the existing tensioner. ht...
Might not be a bad idea to also check the timing chain tensioner (passenger side of the engine on the back.) The O-rings are problematic, though I don't know if it would cause *that* much loss.
Nothing on the doors light up except for a faint green AUTO on the driver's window switch. They were pretty skimpy on the backlit controls. As far as the white piece for the HVAC controls, I've never figured out how exactly that thing clips in. There are just two bulbs, one to either side of the fan...
This has come up a few times before but I don't recall if anyone had ever found a way to resolve the popping.
Using the level output converter will do the trick though. I bought a JVC radio a couple years ago from Crutchfield along with the Scosche SLC4, it has worked out fine.
I installed a pair of Strongarm 4079 on my 05 today. They are certainly better than the weak old struts. But when the gate is opened, it will go up and hesitate a little in the midway, then continues opening quickly until it hits the gate's opening limit. The car will shake a bit because of the mom...
I would say to start with sticking your head under the passenger side of the dash and turning the temperature knob... Make sure the cable is still attached to the white damper piece and that it moves freely.
Might be a good idea to buy extras as you stand a good chance at losing some down the dash while trying to replace. You may or may not ever see them again. Just speaking from experience.
The longer antenna is for AM/FM. I always found the reception with the factory radios in the Vibe to be excellent. It's not as good with my current JVC, but I can still pull in some fairly distant stations. Given the size of the antenna, an amplifier was necessary. Unfortunately it is integrated int...
What a wonderful find - that's a gorgeous Vibe. For a 2003, it must have been garage kept with as great as the paint looks. I wish ours that sat outside all its life looked half as good as yours!
Enjoy the car and if you have any questions please ask!
Doesn't look like you can just connect the wire to something on the car's harness. I'm not familiar at all with the 2nd gen, but a quick check on Crutchfield indicates you will need an adapter to integrate the new radio with the steering wheel controls. I've only set up one of these things once (for...
Glad to see you're still enjoying the C-Max! And I'm still envious. ;) Are they even building the C-Max anymore or did they just really scale back on production? They never were in abundance, but it's even less so now. There are only 28 within 100 miles of my zip. Kinda kicking myself for never stop...
Here is a thread on the updated dipstick. I never bothered with getting one, the car doesn't burn oil and the 2ZZ-spec filter (Wix 57145 usually) bumps up the capacity enough for me. I got a deal on Maxlife a while back so I switched switched the Vibe over to it on the last change. The 1ZZ runs smo...
(I think maybe C-HR stands for Corolla - Highly Repulsive?) Very accurate. You hit the nail right on the head there! And I thought that they couldn't possibly make anything that looked worse than that new Prius (especially from the rear.) Toyota has managed to do one better with this thing. :o
Installed a new pair of Strongarm 4079 liftgate supports. They fit perfectly and work great, plus they're American made. Around $43 plus tax. Yay, it opens fully all by itself now.
The glass needs a pair too, but it never gets used so those will wait.
Welcome! Sounds like you've found a great car! Well maintained, clean Vibes are getting hard to find. Kudos to the first owner for taking such good care of the car. Keep up with the maintenance and that car has many more miles of good service to provide.
I checked the local inventory of the CRV - scarce indeed. Honda's not alone though, local inventories of both the RAV4 and Rogue are heavily biased toward AWD models... Are they forcing AWD on people by including it in some sort of "one size fits all" trim / option scheme? By far, the easi...
This has the moon and tunes and since I did the install on the radio now it seems extremely loud. I took the aftermarket radio from the 2006 GT. Ideas on this??? When dealing with the Moon & Tunes / Sun & Sound amplified stereo, a speaker level converter is a must when installing an afterma...
However, the reset procedure requires me to remember my original password. :x :? Really? Well, if a site allowed you to reset your password from a previously logged in session without reauthenticating, it would also let anyone else who has access to your computer do the same. Not the best thing for...
The serpentine belt tensioner is always a good place to start on these cars, especially if it has never been replaced. Even if that isn't the culprit, it's not a bad preventative maintenance item IMHO. I had the "marbles in a cup" rattling sound, but it was very faint and most probably wou...
Today I found fresh oil surrounding the expletive deleted timing chain tensioner that has been in there for all of 3114 miles. I had been checking periodically for the first 1k or so, never noticed any seepage so I thought it was OK. :? Changed the oil today. Switched her over to Maxlife 5W-3...
I don't think vibes had cigarette lighters? The first gens could have either a 12V accessory power outlet w/ flip-down cover or if the "smoker's package" was specified that was replaced with a cigarette lighter socket and element. And a small ashtray that sat in the cup holder. The consol...
It appears the sunshade has been discontinued from GM... P/N was 88973165 according to what I've been able to dig up on parts site searches. I don't know about sourcing it from Toyota.
You may be able to find it at a wrecker somewhere, provided you could buy it separate from the entire assembly.
There were only two dark grey colors available on the first gens... Shadow ('03-'04) and Moonstone ('05-'08.) Paint codes for all Vibe model years can be found here:
I have tried the Xtravisions in two different Vibes, got less than spectacular life out of both. I did like the light output though. I log the hours per tank from my ScanGauge at each fill, and last time i tried them it ended up being ~130 hours until one blew. I went back to standard Sylvania bulbs...
I would say start with the simplest thing first... Since it's coming from the driver's side, remove the oil cap and look into the fill hole. Check if the baffle in there is bent down too far - it can be bent to the point where it contacts the cam, causing a bit of a racket.
They don't add a while lot of light, really... I always thought they were pretty good for factory fog lights though, compared to some cars with factory fog lights I've driven. I tried Silverstars back in 2003 in the Vibe I used to own, which did brighten things up a bit. But the 6 month bulb life wa...
Wow. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v496/hoosier_vibe/vibe/projects/gas_cap1_zpsslpjafp3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v496/hoosier_vibe/vibe/projects/gas_cap2_zpsghovj0oe.jpg I regularly scan for codes with the ScanGauge. I noticed sometimes after I fuel up if I didn't crank the ca...
The '03-'04 had a different seat height adjuster (knob vs. lever) so I guess there was quite a difference in the seat frame. I know the buckle part number changed repeatedly throughout the first gen model run, so who knows what all is different between the various years. Here's a catalog with the br...
If the locks aren't turning, maybe just try a shot of some sort of spray lubricant. The locks on ours previously didn't get used often so I would find they were seized... A quick shot of WD-40 and some time for it to do its thing freed them up. If you can get them to move again, make sure you use th...
Yow, a Vibe to Sonic Hatchback conversion. :o The frontal air bags wouldn't have been done much for the occupants in a case like this. The curtain air bags probably would have been more useful and those did work. Very sad to see a Vibe beat up like this, I hope all were OK after the accident. A coup...
Resprayed the dip on the roof from the moonroof forward as I wasn't too thrilled with the way that section looked from the last time. The rest of the roof doesn't look all that great either but it's an area not as easily noticed. Gave the car a good pre-winter waxing and tried to shine up that...
The driver's inflator probably wasn't made by Takata. Apparently it's not uncommon for a manufacturer to use multiple suppliers for the various inflators they need on a vehicle.
Doh. I was getting ready to try to pick up some more Neptune before winter. I needed to repaint the inside edges of the fenders under the hood as the paint has been disappearing from them, so I grabbed a "close enough" GM dark blue metallic rattle can at AutoZone. Not exact, but it's a hec...
Replacing the blower motor resistor wasn't a terrible job, just awkward to get to. Had it going again in minutes. Only needed a socket, 1/4" universal joint adapter and a spinner handle.
- New OEM serpentine belt and tensioner. Good riddance marbles-in-a-cup rattle. was that when starting to accelerate? mine does that too, good to know what it is I was only hearing it at idle once the engine was hot. The noise wasn't very pronounced, you could barely even hear it with the hood clos...
It's been a busy few weeks. I've slowly been giving the car some 14th birthday presents. :D - Sanded/polished/sealed headlights again. - From the "it can't possibly look any worse" department... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v496/hoosier_vibe/vibe/projects/paint/paint1_zpsmv2szd4g.jpg ...
I would guess a fuse or relay is bad. So many items you've mentioned need the ignition key to be on to function, so it may be the relay mentioned here for a similar problem: viewtopic.php?t=35694
