That's OK. Joatmon and I are now in our 15th season here and we'll be here to answer your questions up until the lights go out and the wrecking ball arrives.    Ya know.. that's all well and good... but on a serious note, this place could use a little remodeling to keep that wr...
That's why I asked about the intake manifold. The 1ZZ in the MR2 looks just like the stock base Vibe engine. It could have the stock 1ZZ engine, with the ECU (Engine/Transmission computer) from the MR2. The ECU controls the Redline. Forsty mentioned it has "VVTL-i" that might be just the ...
Frosty sent me a PM, and mentioned that the engine also revs to 7000. This lines up with my theory that the engine/transmission are from an MR2, which redlines at 7000. Is the intake manifold plastic or aluminum? Yeah, but he just claimed the engine and trans are original? So..? In my quick searchi...
Yeah, I need to see pics, especially of the engine bay. Not trying to be rude, but I really don't believe most of your story. If you have an '04 Vibe that's FWD with its original engine and an automatic transmission, then it must be a Base with the 1ZZ-FE (1.8L VVT-i) and the 4-speed A246E transmiss...
A car with that many miles is by no means a lemon. The Vibe is one of the most reliable cars that GM never built. Its entirely possible that's the drivetrain out of an '03 Matrix XRS. There were a few made in '03 that had the auto-tragic transmission, though most had the C60 6-speed manual. *All* 03...
This answer is coming months too late, but..... any door panel from an 03-08 Vibe should match. 03-08 Matrix will fit just fine, but I'm not sure the colors will all match.
Nice looking Vibe. I've always been a fan of Lava... had an '06 Base that color. The photo upload limit is something like 1 MB per image and 3 pics per post. For my recent posts with pics, I've resized the images with picresize.com to 1280px wide and it usually does the trick. Plenty of people used ...
I often see people here get redirected to there, and the mods and admins here don't mind, so I guess I'm missing out on a bunch I didn't know GenVibe in the good old days, since I only came around in 2013, but it was definitely slowing down by then. So, take my opinion as that of latecomer to the f...
Congrats on passing your exam. What made ya switch from mechanical to civil engineering. Sorry, just saw you responded. Its just where my career has taken me. My first job out of college was in the construction industry, designing doors for aircraft hangars. They thought they wanted a ME, b...
I have an old Facebook profile and I'll use that to join the Facebook group. Welcome to GenVibe :D Don't get too involved over there in the Facebook world, you'll get more resources and input here at GenVibe instead. Other than color, you have the identical Vibe as mine (red one) and love it. Witho...
Figured I'd post an update and share the story that I posted to Facebook. I got busted by a County Deputy on New Years Eve near my hometown in Michigan. He openly admitted that he loved them, but the law says I can't have them. No ticket. Just a friendly west Michigan warning. The best part is that...
Cool, I want to work in the automotive industry when I finish my degree. While I'm not as seasoned as @tpollauf, I too am a Mechanical Engineer (by degree anyway)... and when I left for college, I wanted to work in the auto industry. However, fast forward more than a few years and I now work in con...
Yeah, I don't think I've ever consciously felt the VVT in any of the 3 cars I've had with it. Lift on the other hand.. I definitely notice that, but I'm still not quite comfortable revving my car that high. 20 years of conditioning to shift at 3-4000k.... Nope! Lets hit the 8200rpm redline!
yea definitely not use to the hi rev. if I read it right somewhere on here or the Toyota forum, the VVTL-I engages sooner if it's not at the standard 195* coolant temp correct? I noticed if I get on it when its in the middle between cold and where the needle rests (slightly below half way mark), th...
Congrats on the new Vibe. As you have noted on the second gen Vibes, the "GT" package was little more than an appearance package. I think all you need to do is swap bumpers and wheels, and add the hatch spoiler. Its the first gen that the GT package meant something from a performance persp...
Can we just upload Photos now or still have to be linked? You have always been able to directly upload photos, its just that the size limit was restricting. The limit has been raised (to 1MB, I think), but it will likely still require the pics to be resized. I've been using an online service (picre...
Welcome. Let's see some pics! I'm guessing by an 08 that is a sort of teal color that you have a Stealth (name of color). I too came to the Vibe for the Toyota reliability with GM depreciation. We had a 1ZZ Corolla with over 200K miles on it for my wife when it was decided that I needed a new car. W...
I think the best way is to resize the pics so that they can be uploaded directly to the forum. As we all recently learned from PhotoBucket, relying on a 3rd party host can lead to issues. I like to use http://picresize.com I'm trying to decide if I want to go through the trouble of fixing all my bro...
These actually were from the factory. The price tag on them from the factory was ridiculously high, which is why you don't see a bunch of them on the road. I worked for GM at the time, so i got a pretty hefty discount (something like 40% off retail) so i decided to go for it. In my 11+ years drivin...
All of your input has been awesome, and I appreciate it, so much! I will definitely be back when other problems arise!! Thanks again!! We have the best group of people here! If you're on Facebook, definitely look up GenVibe and join us over there too! Unfortunately, activity around here has greatly...
I'm currently sitting at about 153k miles on my '09 Vibe GT. I was driving 66 miles a day over most of the summer, and my family have driven the crap out of it. Has anyone ever tried to get a Vibe into the Million Mile Club? There's a guy over on the Facebook group who claims to have 1.5 million ki...
Yes. You can lower any Vibe on springs. FYI - 09-10 is Gen 2. 03-04 is Gen 1 05-08 is Gen 1.5. Nearly identical to Gen 1 in every meaningful way. Same exact cars with a different front bumper and grill EDIT... you might not want to take my word for it, but I believe springs from an 03-08 will an 09....
These desiccant varieties and what the feds make them do about it are what's going to play out in the future. But for those of you that wondered why only your passenger side was getting recalled and not your driver, it's likely 'cause you have an '08 or greater and the driver side has dessicant (it...
Thanks again for all your input!! Yes runningslow, I do think I need to find a new mechanic. .. The thing is, finding a trustworthy mechanic (not the easiest thing to do when you are female). I may come back here for more input if and when the time comes!! Thanks again!! Come back any time you have...
Sounds like you need a new mechanic. Since they couldn't find anything actually wrong, they were finding some way to make some money off you. There's nothing special about a Vibe battery, regardless of year. My 06 is runnning an AutoCraft Gold from Advance Auto Parts. I only splurged for the Gold fo...
This picture makes it look so much worse, but something has been sprayed on the cluster and it will not come off. If trying to clean it up with PlastX doesn't work, then I'm just going to replace the cover of the cluster with one from a junkyard.

Nice fleet there ;) You going to drive both of them or another family member? Thanks for thinking about us non-Facebook" folks out here in the world :D Long story short: the Lava is going to my dad. I'll be driving it up to him over Labor Day weekend and then flying home. His current car is wr...
As it was when I acquired it two days ago. Far from perfect cosmetically, but running strong. I'm going to be documenting the improvements here as we go. I'll try my best to keep this updated and not just post them to the Facebook group. For starters, I'm going to be swapping in a few things from th...
The fact that this car shared a drivetrain with my wife's highly reliable Corolla is the only reason I bought a Pontiac. Never would have considered it otherwise. I think at one point I was firmly anti-GM more than I was loyal to any other make. I wouldn't have called myself a Toyota loyalist, eithe...
So, either I now have two DOA units... or I'm doing something wrong. I prefer to think its the latter. What is the bare minimum that needs to be connected to get signs of life (relay clicking when lock/unlock pressed)? Ground, power, antenna. Anything else? Please be explicit, exact pins. The only t...
Probably way to late for a response, but no, it wouldn't work. You need a Vibe GT ECU. I think you could get away with an 04 ECU in your 03, but the 03 is the preferred model. I don't believe that even a Matrix ECU would work.
I wonder if it has been off before and someone put on extra mounting tape. The only thing I remember fighting with was the adhesive and then having to mes with the sprayer hose. There are only those (8) fasteners. (4) in the glass and (2) in each hinge. There shouldn't be anything else holding it in...
Welcome to a fellow Texan! There are several members in the DFW area, so you are not alone. I'm in Houston. Hopefully they will chime in. I agree about the o ring. Haven't had issues on my son's 06, but my old 03 has the leak. But since it is a GT, and harder to change, it has just been tolerated a...
I easily took the top cover off my hatch a little over a month ago. I left the glass on the car, too. Sounds like that's all you need to do, if you're messing with the spoiler. I'm pretty sure you're indicating all the correct fasteners: (4) thru the glass, (2) at each hatch glass hinge. There's als...
I'm working on the assumption the unit is dead. I've found another on eBay pretty cheap, so we'll see in a few days. I'll test it with minimal wiring first.
OK, then let's start from the beginning. I hate to ask this of ya, but disconnect everything EXCEPT your ground (#8, 9-pin) and +12v (red, 6-pin). with only those 2 connected, you should have at least SOME response (relay clicking inside unit ) when pressing lock/unlock on the keypad. If not, the u...
