I can definitely smell something when I'm idling. I found that if you don't blow in outside air that you can't smell it. Can turn on outside air (vs recirculate) when you are moving with no problem. Both me and my mechanic looked for obvious exhaust leaks and couldn't find anything that sounded lik...

The inconsistent throttle response could have a number of causes. 1. There was a recall for the ECM on a number of models (including my 05 base). Check if yours is included and if the recall has been performed. 2. The throttle body could be sticky. that's where your cleaning will come in. 3. A small...

You may have more than one issue.
Still: first get the alternator checked and even if the battery is fairly new have it checked as well.
Once you can be sure the alternator and battery are fine let's see what the other electrical gremlins are doing.

I think we need to define what we mean with sludge. The soft milky stuff under the filler cap is not sludge. That is an oil/water emulsion.
Real sludge is hard crusty black oil residue that sticks to the internal parts of the engine. Anti sludge oil supposed to deal with that.

So, what do you have?

If the engine has a heat shield and the exhaust header up front it is a 2.4 l engine.
If the engine has a plastic intake manifold up front it is the 1.8 L engine.

Also the 8th character of the VIN is for the engine. You can use VIN decoder (Google it) to find out.
