Re: Can the cigarette lighter handle a 15 Amp draw?

This is fantastic! I am definitely adding that second outlet; I was always pissed that they didn't put one in there. I appreciate the link! Thanks for the confirmation. I've actually had to change that fuse a few times in the past. My girlfriend plugged in an inverter with failing wiring, and I'm pr...

Re: Can the cigarette lighter handle a 15 Amp draw?

So if I blow the fuse, that's the only damage that will happen, and it can be repaired by replacing the fuse? I don't have a lot of experience with electrical systems, and even less with auto electrical, so I'm trying to make sure I have the answers before I go experimenting. My poor Vibe has enough...

Can the cigarette lighter handle a 15 Amp draw?

I want/need to have a portable air compressor in my car. I want to get this Viair 78P recommended by Wirecutter , but I see that it typically draws at 15 amps while operating. Can the cigarette outlet (and the circuit behind it) handle 15 amps? Since this is an air compressor, the car would be parke...

Re: WTB: Grommet for hood support rod

Thanks, everybody! Nice teamwork! Thanks to you, I was able to find it on Amazon for $5.02 . It's amazing that this qualifies for Prime shipping and isn't an add-on item, so I'll give that a shot since eBay would take 6-8 business days to get to me. The listing says it fits the 03-08 Vibe, so that's...

Re: Parting out 2003 Vibe auto

I'm in Ferndale, and could definitely come to you. Where are you, roughly? Is the left side mirror still undamaged? I need one of those. $30 is high, though, since I can get a brand-new one for $37. I'd also take the floor mats, the foglamps, and the front bumper-cover grille inserts. I might even t...

WTB: Grommet for hood support rod

Somehow, the plastic (rubber?) grommet securing my hood support rod to the body of the car vanished quite a while ago, leaving the support rod rather unstable (since it's now able to slide all the way into the hole if bumped, which would result in the hood crashing down). The original part number wa...

I've never been to a meet before, but this one is 20 minutes away from me, so I guess I'm going! Uh, what do we do at a meet?

Re: Buying a new upstream O2 sensor

If you can handle a socket wrench, you can do an intake manifold gasket- there's not much to screw up. Yep, I'm perfectly comfortable with a socket wrench and regular hand tools. I was mostly concerned about tubes/hoses that contain fluids, and I don't know which ones those are just from reading th...

Re: Buying a new upstream O2 sensor

Thanks, jolt. I'm not trying to defer maintenance- I just never had an opportunity to learn about these infrequent/long-term maintenance items like this; I've never had anybody in my family or friends who knew anything about cars, and I'm just now starting down the path of learning for myself so I c...

Re: How many miles on your Vibes?

My 2005 just hit 215,000 miles. I bought it in 2006 (when it wasn't even a year old yet) after a travelling salesman put 40,000 miles on it in 9 months, so I'm averaging about 18,700 miles per year. I hope it'll last a LOT longer, but I've recently been discovering how many parts I should have repla...

Buying a new upstream O2 sensor

The short story: I need a new upstream O2 sensor. Does anyone have experience with buying any of the ones listed below? My 2005 FWD has had the CEL on for a month or so, and I finally checked it. I got code P0171, and spent a few hours reading about it here on the forums. I took my car into my mech...

Re: Buying 4 new steel wheels for a 2005

When it comes to cars, I have almost zero DIY experience. If sanding and painting is really easy (save for the elbow grease), I'd be willing to do that. If not, I'd probably just leave the three old wheels as is... unless the surface rust is going to damage them. What does this process look like? As...

Buying 4 new steel wheels for a 2005

We got our first major winter weather here in Detroit a couple weeks ago. I slid on some ice while trying to turn, hit a curb at low speed, and wound up bending one of my steel wheels. My auto shop wants $160 to order me a new one, which I know is ridiculous. Another local shop can sell me a new one...

Re: 03-08 radio bezel, roof rack caps, bumper prot., mat hooks

This is what they look like. Make sure you have the plastic piece on the carpet also. Mine is missing that round plastic piece so I have to find one of those also, but I have a couple of extra clips if you want one or two. Do you still have an extra pair of these mat hooks? I only discovered today ...

"Hard-wiring an AUX device", 2010 Update

I've been reading this board off and on for years, but never made an account to post with until today. I do LOTS of cross-country driving, so I've finally decided to add an AUX input to my factory HU, but I'm really stuck. I've read every thread on this board discussing the topic (including the one ...
