Yeah you likely have the famous 2zz oil leak where the cylinder head, engine block, and timing cover all meet on the rear side (at least that's where mine was). Very well done .... so far! Kudos for taking the time and motivation to disassemble this mess and return it to service. Never seen a throw-out bearing do wear like that onto a pressure plate :o Nice pics also where they clearly show the wear and damage done! Awaiting the final end of this story :)

Just an FYI, if you have to remove any upper panels, you MUST remove the top one first as it interlocks the left & right side pieces. The photo shows it all! Good luck ;)

Did you use a push-pin removal tool? Yes. An older "thicker metal" one BUT the problem was locating where all the push pins are. The panels are so tight to the metal that you can't pry a bit to even locate them. Seeing how you're removing the larger panel it may be a bit more forgiving (flexible) t...

I've had the upper trim pieces around the glass removed (and they were not very easy .... cracked the very top piece) when performing my high mount 3rd brake light mod years ago. Never had to remove the larger lower panel yet. Good luck!

EXTREMELY clean underside for a 17 year old car ;) Good thing you in a location that allows for the preservation of such vehicle. Out here in the midwest or northeast, that same vehicle would have lots of rust & corrosion from winter driving.

Yeah the passenger side is more complicated and involved to replace. Several of us here have posted the difficulties in replacing the pass side, so maybe your mechanic had some difficulties and something didn't go back together properly? Let us know what you find

Yeah I too will be looking into an aftermarket unit soon. Bulbs are starting to go out "intermittently" and a few of the most common buttons are worn to where you don't know what they are anymore. Plus I really want one with a backup camera. Mid-summer/late fall project for the 2004 Vibe GT ;)
