One relatively quick thing to check is to see if the noise is present when the serpentine belt is removed. My 03 has a 9033 compressor in it, but the end bolt is a T30 torx.

I remember when genvibe was younger and Vibes were a new thing on the car scene, folks here exercised tact on some of the mods people did to there cars, often saying things like "Its your car, you can do what you want to it" but that, I think, crosses the line.
