Goodbye

It is with no small amount of emotion that I announce the sale of our 2005 red base vibe. We drove it for 160K trouble free miles and on our final drive we brought it from Pa. to Co. at an average speed of 75/80 mph while realizing 31 mpg. Short interval oil changes with Mobil1 and preventive mainte...

Did I Break a Rear Mount?

I have an 05 base fwd with 130K well cared for miles. Yesterday I passed my turn into a driveway and accelerated fairly hard to back up to it. When I put it back into drive it had a very hard metallic rattle and vibration. If I sit still in neutral it is still running like a clock. Put it in any gea...

Re: Front end droning

If you don't mind my asking, what does a shop charge to replace a wheel bearing? Independent shop or dealership?

Braking Tip to Save Rotors

I'm about to do front brakes for the second time at 130K. Quality EBC rotors and greenstuff pads. While reading about brakes I noted that a lot of people report "warped rotors". Now I know that there are some cheap rotors out there with bad metallurgy but there is a driving habit that can ...

Re: Staying Reliable/What Fails Routinely?

Somewhere on one of those long straights when I had the cruise off, the GPS says I crept up to 94MPH. I've never stood on it till it quit to know just how fast it is. Anyone out there know where a base 2wd tops out?

Re: Staying Reliable/What Fails Routinely?

My thanks to all who responded. The information was very helpful and reassuring. Our little vibe performed like the trooper it is. Once out in the 75mph west, I set the cruise on 78 and cruised for hours on end. The little motor ran like a clock, the new freshly balanced Michelins were quiet and smo...

Staying Reliable/What Fails Routinely?

I'm driving my '05 base salsa from Pa. to Colorado at Christmas and to avoid problems I have been doing maintenance and replacements. I have 123,000 miles that have been for the most part trouble free. For the trip I have installed new Michelin tires and winter wipers. I did a routine Mobil 1 oil ch...

Re: need steel or alloy wheels

I've heard of dropping down to a 15 for winter tires. What model would be compatible? I would of course need the same bolt pattern and the offset would also need to match. Any suggestions?

need steel or alloy wheels

I'm looking for a set of 16" wheels in clean serviceable condition for a set of winter tires. I am near Allentown pa and willing to travel as much as a couple hundred miles for a clean set at a fair price. I would even consider 3 wheels and complete the set off of e-bay if necessary. Reply thru...

Re: 100K Checkup

Good recommendation on the brake fluid. On The older Honda cycles with the hydraulic clutches, the fluid in time looks like mud and causes seal leaks and internal corrosion. I'll get out my mighty vac and get a jug of fluid and suck fluid out of each wheel cylinder till all 4 run clear.

Re: GOT RUST?

Thanks all for the tips. I address chips and finish maintenance so rusting from the outside in does not worry me. My concern is those little spots unique to each vehicle which accumulate road crud and rust holes in many vehicles of the same type. I've been watching all the vibes I see and so far I h...

Re: GOT RUST?

I appreciate the link which showed the rust spots you discovered. I'll check all the spots I can reach without too much disassembly. Thanks!
Anyone else find more?

GOT RUST?

Most vehicles have little nooks and crannies where road dirt and crud accumulate in the body or frame, holding moisture and leading to rust. Has anyone discovered any of these spots in our vibes? I keep mine clean and pressure wash the underboby because I hate rust! Are there any of these little hid...

Re: 100K Checkup

Well, they are quiet and the vibe is running like a top. I am familiar with other shim and bucket adjusted valves and in those engines almost nobody even bothered to check them with no resulting problems (high reving Honda v-4 motorcycles). I'm going with all the fluids and a general inspection and ...

Re: Passenger Side Leak

I know this post has been here awhile so I hope you've solved the problem by now...but, for others, the drain hose on the bottom of the condenser canister does not always have to come off to be the problem. Mine got clogged and the entire canister would fill up to the point that it would slosh over ...

Re: What milage did you have to replace your Fuel Pump?

Just reading thru old posts about maintenance prior to a long cross country trip and this one caught my eye. To extend a fuel pump's life, don't run around regularly on a low tank. Besides the obvious sediment problem from running out, there is another important fact which is often overlooked...fuel...

Re: 100K Checkup

Thanks for the reply Jeremy. My wheel bearings seem fine and it's good to know that they don't require maintenance. The pwr steering is fine and the engine compartment looks near showroom when I wipe it down at every other washing so I know that everything is tight and dry. Thank you too triz for me...

With the help of this forum I have successfully resolved the door check/window problem and the hvac fresh air door gear problem. THANKS GUYS1 Now I'm getting ready to...

Just wanted to let you know how helpful your detailed post was. I would not have attempted this repair without your instructions. Re: vent drainage pipe (fortows)

Mine was clogged and filled the whole cavity, then when I turned left it would spill over in the squirrel cage blower housing next to it. It made a noise like a powersteering belt squeal or a bad bearing. Removed it, rodded it out with a clotheshanger and all is well. Junk may have entered when I ch...
