Yep, hit in the rear in January this year. The Vibe was totaled but we are okay. The other driver was cited and their insurance is paying.

The second generation base USA Vibes do NOT need a bypass, key, or anything else. All Canada models DO need it.

To prove it, go to your local hardware store and get a cheap key copy made. If it will start your car, you need nothing extra.

Just a WAG that it is a bad ground. The headlamps are seeking a ground anywhere it can be found and the headlamps found it through the indicator lamp.

I haven't been on for a while and just noticed this thread. I do have a transmission cooler in my 2009 1.8L. I mounted it in front of the condenser/radiator after popping out the grille insert. I made my own aluminum brackets for mounting about .5" from the condenser. I don't trust mounting it ...

I am 6'1" and can wear a hat while driving my 2009. Before buying in 2009 I test drove some cars that my hair was brushing the ceiling without a hat. The Vibe is very roomy for a compact.

You shouldn't put new pads on old worn rotors. One of two things will happen, either the braking will be reduced due to worn rotor or the pads will wear out quickly, or both.

The problem you are experiencing is a design flaw. Follow the instructions in that long thread on repair. It isn't a difficult fix but might take an afternoon.

I did the fix and filled the new knobs with epoxy before installing. You can still see the light through the knob and so far so good.

We replaced the alternator and with a full load with everything on in, the terminals show 14.1 V so I call that a success. Glad you got it fixed. A poor connection causes arcing,

arcing causes heat,

heat melts things.

You need to replace both sides of the connection.

The shop I went to had several brands and thicknesses. I chose the best/thickest lifetime guarantee type available. It was Viper brand.

I wasn't interested in doing it myself because I tried on other vehicles previously.

Your issue has nothing to do with a ground wire. You have a short in a positive/hot wire. The most likely location is where you have added lights/wiring. I left the original receptacle as is because it powers my dash cam and triggers it to come on when the receptacle receives power. Lights that behave in the manner described usually have an inadequate ground connection. Unfortunately I can't suggest where you start looking.

You check the AC output by comparing the input temperature and output temperature. If the air going into the system was 70 and the air coming out was 50, you are working correctly. My 2009 base is comfortable. It may be different than your 2005. I have driven 17 hours while only stopping for food and fuel. I have also slept in the driver's seat for several nights while on the road.

Sounds like you are blocking air leakage from coming around behind the condenser. Is that correct?

If there is substantial leakage, the insulation could force more air through the condenser rather than around it.

Manual was a misprint, use either 5w20 or better yet use 0w20 if you can find it.
