Re: Manifold heat shield necessary or not?

FWIW, I know of a couple people who have had aftermarket headers on their 2.4L Vibes/Matrices and they did not re-install the exhaust manifold heat shield and seemingly had no issues. I personally wouldn't risk it, but it's your Vibe not mine. You could always try finding a used one and painting it ...

FWIW, traction control and side air bags are standard on ALL 09-10 Vibes.

I will be getting Blizzak WS80s for both our Vibes before this winter hits. We've been fine the past 9 winters with all season tires, but we're due for new tires so I figured I'd give the Blizzaks a go this time around.

As others have already said, the oil consumption issue is not that big of a deal. FWIW, it seems to affect mainly early 2008 built 2009s. My mom and I both have 2009 GTs, neither of which use any oil whatsoever. Their build dates are October 29, 2008 and November 17, 2008.

I agree with the previous two posters. Get the GM all weather front mats. Unfortunately, the matching GM rear mats are pretty much impossible to get a hold of, so I would just grab some universal rear mats.

Just disable it. I did both our 09 GTs quite a few years ago. It's super easy and is 100% reversible. We got new tires in 2015 and I just had plain old rubber valve stems installed. It's been great, one less thing to have to deal with.

Retired, one less tag, tax and insurance payment. Also I am the only person in my family that knows how to drive a manual shift.
