I took TRB's approach to this problem. 1.) I started by sanding down the flare on the back of the knob. Did this with an electric sander just holding it flat on the flare side - it sanded it off pretty fast. 2.) Then I taped off the area around the knob and cut off the top of the old knob using a D...
My radio knob broke for the second time. I plan to remove it in pieces without taking apart the dash. Hopefully I can preserve the knob enough to match it up with one from radio shack or somehwere that will fit right on without taking the car apart.
My radio knob just broke...for the second time. This time Im not under warranty for a free fix. It looks like its not too easy to beef up the stock knob with epoxy without filing down the radio also. Im thinking ill break up the broken knob and remove it in pieces. Maybe try to crush it with vice gr...
Here's a post with the part numbers for the rubber inserts, which is all you need to replace if nothing's broken. I'm with you, by the way, the OEM wipers work far better and last longer than any fancy brand name ones I've ever tried. I keep a spare set under the cargo cover by the spare so if I ev...
rear brakes worn out at 80k? hmm. i just checked mine at 40k and they are probably no more than 25% worn. depends on whether you drive city or highway mostly.
special tool for compressing disc brake? clamp or large arc joint pliers work.
Mine are 4.5 years old and still work pretty good. Toyota dealer says they are nothing special just have a plastic shroud over a plain old wiper. Id still like to replace them with the same if possible. Anyone got a part number or supplier for OEM vibe wiper blades? 09+ model
I think this 09 automatic 1.8L vibe has the U341E transmission. Does it take the WS or T-IV trans fluid? I think the dipstick says WS but the owners manual says T-IV. How many qts for a drain/fill?
http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...age=1that thread was linked above but is easy to miss. you can change the knob yourself but yes it looks like a lot or work. I just had mine fixed at a chevy dealer under warranty, but now the knob seems stiff and hard to turn. oh well. when it breaks again out of wa...
I was thinkin...what about trying to find a suitable replacement at radio shack or something. Then it would be easier to change if it breaks again. Wait. If there was a replacement, it probably wouldnt break...
Does the radio have to be pulled to remove and replace just the knob? 19204643 Knob part number. Can be ordered online, a bit pricey with shipping but doable.
My power/volume knob imploded last week on my 2009. I took it into a chevy dealer for that and a couple other issues. They got the part for the other issue today but said another week for the knob. After it broke I pulled on it to try to take it off, but wouldnt come off. I'll have to stock up on ex...
I'm having an issue replacing my cabin air filter. I think I only took it out 1 time about a year ago just to see where it was. However last couple of days my vents have been smelling mildewy, so I figure time to check or change filter. I take the old one out, and find out that its got a large pinch...
These seem to have some specialized sort of wiper blades with a lot of plastic instead of a metal frame. My factory ones lasted a long time and I think I want to get another set. What is the best place to buy these? Yes I know, the stealership, but I don't like the one where I bought my car. They di...
I know that the 1.8L engines are different from 08 to 09, but are the 4 speed transmissions the same model or different? Anyone know what the model numbers are?Is there a brand new recall on 2008 4 speed automatics?
I'm pretty sure its toyota pink coolant, which only comes 50/50 premixed at the dealership for $25 a bottle. Looks pretty easy to change if you stick with the same kind and don't have to flush it. Probably doesnt need it but once every 5 years.
Owners manual says T-IV, dipstick says WS. Which is it? What is GM part number/price for WS? Stealership says $17/qt. I see Toyota WS online for about $6 a quart. HELP!
The dealership that I took it to charged the government, I mean GM, something like $83 for the "free" oil change and tire rotation. I had to sign to show that it had been done. Any dealership that wont service it even if you didnt buy it there is stupid.
Ive got about 11k miles on my 09 base. Ive got the stock 16" steelies with wheel covers and TPMS. I'm wondering what other OEM wheels will fit my car (corolla, matrix, scion, etc) in case I can find some better rims when I have to replace my tires. Also, will 15" Enkei's work (from discoun...
My vibe just turned 1 and I used my last Toyota 04152-YZZA6 about a week ago when I changed the oil THE DAY BEFORE I GOT MY 4 FREE OIL CHANGES!!!Oh well, I don't always have time to wait 3 hours for a "FREE" oil change. Are you guys buying the cartridge filter at the Pontiac dealer, Toyota...
I thought about cutting a mouse pad to size and attaching to the vibe arm rest. You could use a black one or something cooler like a Dale Jr mouse pad They really screwed that up by putting hard plastic. Even a rubbery coating would have been fine.
The radio antenna comes off easy enough, I just think it was stupid to put it there. Methinks the camry has the antenna around the windshield so there is no external antenna. Or is that the crown vic? I forget.Im still on my free year of onstar, so I guess I leave it for now. I dont care about remov...
I usually take off slower in my vibe than my other cars, but thats because I want it to last forever. Im not concerned about durability, but im just taking it easy. I got 34 mpg last fill up with about 50 miles in town and 140 highway!
I think its really dumb that the 09 has the antenna in the middle of the car sticking straight up. But at least it can be easily removed, leaving only a 2 inch high cone of plastic. Anyways, the secondary antenna, at the back passenger side corner, is that for XM? Id like to remove it or at least th...
Motorcraft makes good 5W20 synthetic blend. I havent had to change my own oil yet but I think I will use that. Ive used the 5w30 in my tundra. Its generally cheap too, about $2.50 a quart.
I didnt buy a vibe because it was a pontiac or a GM. I bought it because its a toyota and I could use my GM card rebate on it. the best of both worlds.Im not worried about resale because Id sell my chevy's and drive my vibe into the ground.
if the wiring harness is already there, wouldnt it just be as easy as plugging and snapping in the fogs, popping in a switch, and putting a fuse in the right place in the fusebox? Where does the switch go? how much does the switch cost?
on my 09 I got the trailer hitch bike rack and can open my hatch fully (with my particular rack). Its a little tougher with the bikes mounted to open it, but not impossible. Just have to shimmy the hatch past the handlebars. not sure if it works on an 03-08 model though.
The dealer is going to do the first oil change soon. Im at about 1100 miles. After that, I think I will do a short oil change (~2000 mi) on some Proline dino 5w20 that I got for cheap at pep boys. Then Ill probably do motorcraft or synthetic 5w20 and change it every 6 mos or 6k for MC or 10k for syn.
wow thats awesome. Im betting you dont drive like gramma either. This is rated 32 highway by the NEW epa estimates. The old ones were a bit optimistic.
i got a couple filters at the toyota dealer yesterday. today I went to pepboys to get a filter wrench. they had 68 mm but not 64 or 65. dang. I did get 5 quarts of proline oil and a filter (for different car) for $10. Actually I got 40 quarts of oil and 8 filters. 5w20 was included in the sale too.
who is doing the math for mpg and who is using the trip computer? Those trip computers are bung. My friend says he gets 27 in town and 33 hwy and I look at his trip comp and the average is 26mpg, which really means its about 23-24. I was LUCKY to get 30 mpg one time in my 3.1L 2002 malibu. Best ever...
Im still on my 3 mos free but I wont be signing up for XM/Sirius. Im still pissed about paying for cable TV. Once this DTV conversion is official I might drop that too. If this economy gets any worse, all this pay crap that used to be free will get dropped like a bad habit.
I got 31.7 mpg in my 1.8L vibe. At the end of the trip I have 976 miles. its not even broken in yet. and I wasnt driving very slow. Id love to see a 2.4L vibe do that, or a RAV, or an xB.
