We're getting about 62% here. I have a sister in Vermont who will be in the path of 100%, but I have no intention of traveling that 1500 miles to see it. We had 100% here a few years ago and it was really cool, but it's not pilgrimage worthy to me. Right now I'm just hoping it's not too cloudy tomor...
I've noticed another small detail, our 04 has a threaded screw-in gas cap. My 05 has a twist & click cap, but then when my wife bought her 05, I noticed it has the threaded cap like the 04......early 05 maybe? My 04 (RIP) and 08 have screw-in caps, while the 05 is twist and click. Not sure why ...
Today I used a coat hanger to rescue my oil dipstick. Big sigh of relief, there are none in stock at any of the parts stores in the area that I can find. Yesterday I changed the oil in Silver and while I was checking and topping off I set the dipstick down on top of the fan shroud. It immediately ro...
I haven't decided yet, but I'm not finding a lot of Vibe options on Craigslist or Autotrader. Sometimes I think that something newer with some of the electronic goodies might be nice, little things like Bluetooth enabled radio, led lights and adaptive cruise control. Also thinking this might be the ...
I ended up getting a second estimate that came in much higher than the first one. I figured out the first place gave me a low-ball initial estimate and would then submit a supplemental that would result in a total loss. But they would have got a payment from my insurance for the initial work at leas...
Resolved my issue with the clock/radio digits fading away, plus can't see them with polarized sun glasses either. Found this on Amazon for 8 bucks. The display is inset just a bit so I added a strip of double sided tape to the adhesive as a spacer.
Finally got an estimate today, came in much lower than expected and insurance accepted it. So I get Frosty fixed I guess. Can't really believe that State Farm is paying $3k+ to fix a 2004 with 209k miles, but I'm not complaining either. As regards to scrap yards, finding 1st gen Vibes in scrap yards...
Well I guess I spoke too soon and likely jinxed myself. I was leaving a parking lot today when a truck pulled into the exit lane right in front of me, I reflexively dodged to the right but in doing so hit the bumper of a parked truck. Never even saw it as I was looking at the truck I though was abou...
Right now I'm getting all the miles I can out of Frosty. At 209k miles I just replace the right front wheel bearing, and the left probably only has a few thousand left on it. I replaced the A/C condenser just a month or so ago, and the front rotors and calipers a few months before that. And the stru...
Thought all the Vibes had dome light supervision? That looks like the sunroof switch/map lamp assembly. Strange as it may be, while the dome lights would time out after a while, the map light didn't have those kind of smarts. It'll stay on until the battery is dead or the bulb burns out, whichever ...
I have a broken lens on Frosty, I put some clear packing tape on it a few years ago and it's still holding up fine. I bought some clear Gorilla tape since then, so one of these days maybe I'll peal off the packing tape and put the Gorilla on. That will probably be permanent. I've also bought several...
My first choice would be a new Trax. Second choice would be a new Trailblazer. Next in line are the new little Buicks. I hope my Vibe lasts forever so I don't have to fuss with all the new-fangled equipment on today's new cars. My daughter bought a 2021 Trailblazer a couple years ago (Jan 2021) and...
I've listened to parts of collage football games on AM, but not in the last few years that I can think of. Other than that - never. In the Vibes and my pickup that don't have bluetooth radios I use one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B088TCSH8T/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&a...
I've had the panel off of my 04 dozens of times and there's no "slide" that I recall. Just connect the electrical plug and hook the top over the door and snap it back in place. I'm not sure if there's a way to slide it so that all the panel clips slide out of their mounts? I just pop them ...
I finally gave up on the alloy wheels on Frosty, too many recurring bead leaks. When I put snow tires on a few months ago the tech got them polished really well and they were holding up pretty good, but I know it's only a matter of time till the next leak. I bought a set of Dorman steels on Amazon, ...

Am I just lucky that my battery has lasted this long?
I would say yes, but I guess it depends some on location and climate. Here 5 years is optimal, 7 is starting to really push your luck. At 8 years I would say it's likely to fail any day that that you really, really need it.
I'm the second owner of a 2005 Vibe with about 125k miles, and it's a great and reliable car. I'm also the 2nd owner of a 2004 Vibe with ~206k miles, also a great and reliable car. Actually I guess I'm the 4th owner, since I gave the car to our daughter in 2015 and then bought it back from her in 20...
I've replaced the fender liners several times (my daughter was hard on them somehow) and usually moved the deflector. It's a 2-piece part, a threaded plate on top of the liner, and the deflector itself. Two 6mm bolts through the deflector and into the plate hold it in place. On this page click on th...
Nice, glad that worked out for you so well. About any plastic push pin that's large enough to fit the hole would work fine. The bolt is most likely 6mm with a 10mm hex head. I actually think over 90% of the bolts on the vibe are that size. I'm sure that's an exaggeration and not to be taken literall...
I think that would look absolutely horrid. Totally agree. Spend $60+ and get a set of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013H2OJOK?ref=vse_pfo_cp_widget&th=1 I assume your year Vibe has Corrola base steel rims? If not, then it still won't break the bank to get a set to cover them up! I'm looking...
I think the bare steelies are not attractive, but the plastic wheel covers are just cosmetic, so they are optional. Wonder what frosty would look like with no wheel covers but the steelies painted white I think that would look absolutely horrid. The black steel are unattractive for sure, but painti...
I just bought some steel wheels to mount snow tires for Frosty, and I have a spare set of steel wheel lug nuts. So all I need is a set of wheel covers that screw on to the steel wheel nuts.
Not in PA but grew up north of Pittsburgh, left in 75 when I joined the Army. Sadly I can't even speak yinzer anymore, just been gone too long I guess. I try every now and then but my little brother just laughs at my feeble attempts.
I think you're fine, although I would do a couple of drain and fills rather than a flush. I just buy 7 quarts of T-IV fluid and a couple crush washers at a Toyota dealer, I seem to get 3.5 qts out on each drain.
Mine are 21 and 18, and the passenger side is just a hair too long, but I figure that's better than being shorter and not clearing as much of the windshield.
I've only done it once about 15 years or so ago, with a Thule on a vacation trip in our Dodge minivan. It wasn't too bad, but head and side winds made a very noticeable difference. I kept heavier stuff in the back of the van and used the roof box for lighter but bulkier items. It absolutely impacted...
Something I've mentioned on other threads but may be too late here: I switched to 205/60R16s several years back and am very happy with the smoother ride as well as the more accurate speedometer.
Two very dusty but fully intact and functional Vibe crossbars. Because of the size and weight, I'm going to have to re-evaluate. Maybe $50 + shipping. I'll have to get a quote on the shipping.
I used to run the CS3, which became the Evolution Tour, which became the Endeavor. According to the tire shop Cooper made changes to the tire compounds along the way, which is why the name changed. The Evolutions do seem to wear better than the CS3 did, like any tire you just have to rotate regularl...
Considering that they've been up in the rafters for almost 17 years, I'd say yes it pretty fair. Give me a few days, I'll have to get up a ladder and make sure they're still there before I can commit.
I have a set that I took off Frosty back in 2006. In fact I was googling for how to remove them when I first came across this forum. I have no idea what a fair price would be, though.
Not sure if they will fit your price range, tires have gone up a lot over the past year or so, but I'm running Cooper Evolution Tour on three Vibes and a CR-V. Smoothest and quietest tires I've ever had, and very good in rain and snow as well. Looks like they renamed it to Endeavor now. https://coop...
That is where I found it, but I thought it was high side only. Must be just one on this car. If I understand it I should be able to jumper 1 and 2 and if the compressor kicks in then I have a bad switch. If not then I have a $$$ repair, or a cool weather only car.
Very informative thread, but no one actually answered the OP's original question: Where is the low pressure switch located? There is a four-pin switch on the top of the accumulator, but AutoZone shows a 3-pin switch. Can anyone tell me if this is the correct location and switch? Also, if the switch ...
Like Jolt said, I would use a screwdriver to pop that off, but then I would replace it with a Fumoto drain valve https://www.fumotousa.com/cars-pickups- ... -4l-4-cyl-. Never worry about the washer again. Have one on every vehicle I own.
My 04 can sometimes take a few seconds of cranking before it starts, but that's mainly when it's already warm. Like when running errands and it's only sat for a few minutes, and also when it's well below 0º in the morning. Normal cold starts in the morning and after work are no more than 1-2 seconds...
It's showing a surface charge of 12.5 maybe, but the battery itself is no way near that. An hour charge after it's been drained overnight isn't going to do squat. Hook it up to a smart charger and let it sit for at least 12 hours, it will either go to float or fault. If float you're good, if fault g...
