Re: How many miles on your Vibes?

My 2006 Vibe hit the 299999 mark recently and thought it was due some praise. It hasn't been a primary car for a couple years and only goes out for beach trips and groceries on occasion. The old girl has been a benchmark of reliability. Everything still works - starts, windows, brakes are smooth, st...

Re: power steering fluid exchange

Thank you all for the input. I decided to first try changing the fluid after reading recommendations in threads here related to the symptoms I have with my steering. The process seems easy and not too inconvenient for 8 bucks. As for your question @jolt, I would certainly use "power steering fl...

power steering fluid exchange

I have a 2006 with about 230k. I have started getting a little noise turning the wheel usually characteristic of power steering pump issues. It has the original fluid. It isn't leaking but I figure I might as well change it out and see if it goes away before troubleshooting further to determine if t...

Re: 2006 vibe rotational noise

This week's update: I had two new mounts put on. The passenger side mount and rear mount. Had both done for $520 which seems reasonable since that work is definitely out of my wheelhouse. The good news is the work was great. I compare the repair to be on par with new struts/springs - like a new car....

Re: 2006 vibe rotational noise

New symptoms have started. I have started noticing a lot of thunk and clunk shifting from D to R and there are wild vibrations on the passenger side of the car especially when cold. Mount? Would it be possible the squeak I posted earlier in this thread is actually a result of engine movement as I co...

Re: 2006 vibe rotational noise

Sorry for delay. I can hear it more clearly with the window down. I have also learned I can finesse the noise by braking to almost 15 mph then releasing and then doing the final pedal push down (no noise that way). If I just maintain light-mod pressure I hear the noise most of the time once the car ...

Re: 2006 vibe rotational noise

Got car back, didn't get fixed. I use a local independent shop mechanic that usually gets anything but it didn't work out. He said he heard the noise right away, thought for sure it was a clip dragging but nothing looked wrong. He took off the rotors, tried turning but they weren;t warped at all, to...

Re: 2006 vibe rotational noise

Thank you for the reply. Does the noise seem to come and go as you make gentle "S" type turns at around 35 -40 mph ? It does not make the noise at all over 30, it only occurs with the brake applied while slowing. Another, BUT ONLY if you are comfortable with doing it safely ! One can jack ...

Re: 2006 vibe rotational noise

Made an appointment for Monday. Messing with it further, I tried warming it up then launching in manual first. I shifted to manual 2nd then got to about 35, then rolled back to 15 and downshifted to manual 1st. Never hit the brake, never heard the noise. It seems to only make the noise if I push the...

Re: 2006 vibe rotational moooing noise

Experimented further, I am starting to think it is one of the front hub assemblies as was also suggested here. It still only makes the noise when warm and seems to occur more when the front end dips slightly during moderate braking. I can release the brake and the noise stops then push it down and i...

Re: 2006 vibe rotational moooing noise

Re: 2006 vibe rotational moooing noise

Check if the brakes are dragging a little. Sticky sliders in the calipers could cause that. After using my 90 minute free time this morning to troubleshoot this further, I am thinking calipers might be it. I drove around for about 30 minutes and the noise has lessened even more today, to the point ...

Re: 2006 vibe rotational moooing noise

Today I spent about 90 minutes driving it around. The noise is not occurring as frequently as it did yesterday. First, it didn't occur until the car was warm (after 3 miles and two stops). The noise is occurring on some stops, not all and to a lesser degree. It still seems rotational, as in it does ...

When I listed to your audio file, it sounded more like a gag recording of you mooing into the recorder, not something mechanical. It IS me mooing. I was driving yesterday and told my wife to use her phone to record the sound. The recording didn't work out so I tried "simulating" the noise...

Re: 2006 vibe rotational moooing noise

Hi I can't access this recording so I comment on the idea that this is rotational noise that is audible as you slow down, most likely applying the brakes. the first place to look are the wheel bearings. See if braking or not braking makes a difference. I once had a car where a failing wheel bearing...

2006 vibe rotational noise

My 06 Vibe now has 225,000 on it. Other than this noise the car has been doing great. Today after getting an oil change and tire rotation it started a strange rotational noise when slowing down. It seems to do it after the last downshift as I crawl to a stop. It is rotational, meaning it is faster t...

Re: mystery part front lower bumper cover

Received the replacement part, matches perfectly. Thankfully the little tabs on the bumper side that hold it on were all intact. You were also right gtv237... It was just aesthetics. I shined a light and there really isn't anything delicate behind there.

My Vibe lives on - all parts intact.

Thanks, I thought the middle part was a grille, the sides something else since they have no opening. I managed to find one on the bay for 8 bucks. I plan to keep little Vibey running a bit longer. 216k and everything still works!

I am seeking a replacement for a little black cover that goes in the lower driver's side front bumper. It looks like a little piece that is about 5" x 3". Mine blew out or got kicked out or something. I am not sure if it was there to help wind resistance or to protect an internal component...

Try pulling the big piece of trim that goes around the stereo off. It should pull straight out. It will have a steel cable attached to the back of the blank button. airflow direction dial don't turn

I guess I am back with my bi-yearly issue. I have a 2006 Vibe. This morning I got in and tried turning the far left climate control dial to defrost. 2006 Vibe "moooooooing" noise

I have a 2006 Vibe with about 170k on it. For about 10,000 miles it has been occasionally making a strange noise when slowing down. The best I can do is describe it is 1 second of cow moooing if that cow was a bit more donkey than cow. Attached is my best cow-donkey hybrid impression of the noise. T...

2006 Vibe flutter noise, constant 25-55MPH

Here goes my sad attempt at describing a new noise: I noticed driving today a fluttering tick tick tick noise noticeable between 25-55MPH seemingly from the front end. It is not a patterned rhythmic tick, it flutters sporadically perhaps 3-4 ticks a second. It doesn't sound like hard metal, more of ...

I read through several threads about the low idle vibration. As soon as I move forward, smooth again. At a sto...
