Re: Rear wheel bearing replacement

Yes, no problem getting those off. The 2 lower bolts are so corroded I would not recommend reusing them, I assume dealers have them. Anyway, I let it sit overnight, and with generous amounts of Liquid Wrench and hammer blows I got nowhere. I can't keep bashing at it, or I'll likely mess up the brake...

Re: Rear wheel bearing replacement

This looked easy enough, but my hub is seized into the backing plate from rust, I soaked it with penetrating fluid and whacked at it a good while, no luck. Any suggestions?

Make my Vibe feel like new?

I need to get a few more years out of my '06 Vibe. It has over 150000 km and feels like it. I would need to replace the struts anyway, but what other things should I replace while I'm at it?

Re: Whining noise from A/C when speeding up (bassplayaz06)

I'm noticing the same (I guess) noise from my A/C. It's not speaker noise, it's a low-pitched whine that matches engine speed and coincides with the A/C kicking in and out. Is this the sound of a compressor dying?

Varsol as bug n tar remover

My 2006 has never been done, just washed, and there is a good collection of bug bodies n stuff especially on the front bumper cover. Any problem with using varsol as a remover? I'll be using a clay bar once I get the surface cleaned and chips filled.

Broken rear wheel stud

Changed over to winter tires this morning, and most of the lug nuts were unbelievably hard to remove, many were cracked at the flange. In the process, I broke one of my rear studs. I don't see any write-ups on how to do that repair, can anyone offer suggestions. And how did they get so tight? Last t...

Re: Windshield Freezing on INTERIOR (djkeev)

What Dave just said. Find the moisture and eliminate it if possible. I have the same thing when I leave too much snow/ice on the mats, it evaporates when the car is warmed up and re-freezes at night. Dump your mats regularly (you aren't using carpet floor mats in the winter are you?!) I also leave m...

Hidden Hitch clearance issue

I installed my round tube Hidden Hitch probably a year and a half ago, maybe more. As time has passed I am finding my muffler is striking the hitch, causing a very annoying rattle. I think it's because the exhaust system is aging and the muffler is riding "backwards" more than when new. An...

It is off by the same amount approximately, if I recall correctly. I don't know what kind of machine it was, I'm no expert on collision repair. Does O.45" sound like alot? I don't have the alignment report in front of me, but it was a number like that.

Rear alignment off-replace axle?

I was in a minor fender bender, at leat it seemed minor to me. Another car lost control and side swiped me very slightly. The shop said before they do anything they want the alignment checked, so I had it done. That shop says the rear wheels are both off to the right by a similar amount. They will c...

Since the winter set in here, it's been -10 to -20C. The car is taking 2-3 cranks before it "catches." I have the "running on 3 cylinders" engine behaviour when it finally does start, just for a second.

Chassis drains

Can anyone point me to a drawing or diagram of chassis drain locations, if any? I get lots of leaves, pine needles, and plain old dirt around here. Just the mixture for plugging drains, as evidenced by my old car. I'd like to avoid the same situation with the Vibe if possible.

Poor paint quality/durability

My Abyss Vibe is less than one year old, but looks worse than cars I've owned for years. It is covered in micro and not-so-micro scratches caused by normal wear and tear, plus one accident with a wash nozzle. The leading edge of the hood has several chips. Overall, the paint doesn't have a nice smoo...

Re: Smells like gas (joatmon)

Sorry, it doesn't smell like gasoline, but just like an engine that's way too rich, a very thick heavy exhaust smell. Inside the cabin it's just a slight odour, outside it's unreal. It goes away once the engine warms a bit. I don't know if this is a function of the catalytic converter or not. That p...

Re: (CAN-AWD-VIBE)

I used kit # TOY-K975, manufactured by American International. It's the kit referenced in http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=24862 The kit is indicated for the 2005-2006 Matrix, and the Pontiac kits didn't look right at all. That person had the same problem. I've PM'd to see what the solution w...

New head unit-screwed up install slightly

The new unit is a Sony CDFX7710, very nice, rear aux input, built in cross overs, etc...anyway, I picked the Matrix install kit thinking they're the same and it would be fine. That install kit is too wide for the opening in the trim panel, so the panel is back on, but only on one side, the other sid...

Aesthetically pleasing head units?

I've just recently purchased a 2006 base Vibe with the standard radio/cd unit. I would like to fit a head unit with an aux input for my mp3 player, but the units I've seen so far don't have that integrated look I want. I prefer a new unit to an aux input device. The dash combo of chrome/red and back...
