The stock 16" steel wheels and stock 16" alloy wheels have the same dimensions. Both steel and alloy wheels are reparable, but you may need to find a wheel repair place. Sam's club won't do that kinda work.

The base Matrix 5-speed might not have offered ABS, but it was optional of the 5-speed XR's and standard on 6-speed XRS's.

On the new axle are the teeth the same width apart and height as the original?

You won't have much trouble hauling around 2x4's that are less than 8' to 10' in the cabin (longer ones would need to stretch above the dash, kinda sketchy). However, each sheet of half inch 4x8' drywall is 50lbs, and half inch 4x8' plywood is 40lbs. Vibes can pull 1000lbs no problem, if you have a ...

It's possible fluid you wiped up compromised the paints integrity, and it failed, then little by little all of it flaked off, due to the corrosion underneath. If the caliper is in good working order you might want to remove it, clean it up with a wire wheel, and put a good coat of caliper paint on it.
