Prestone Extended Life coolant makes it pretty simple........it says on the front of the jug "Any make, Any model, (mixes with) Any color". I dumped the Dexcrud almost 7 years ago and filled with Prestone. Have done a couple of drain/refills over those 7 years.....replaced top and bottom r...
I forgot to disconnect the battery before I started the O2 replacement. After O2 replacement, CEL was on just turning the key to on, start the motor and CEL was still on. Scan for codes again and ScanGauge still displays P0031. Select "clear codes" and bingo, no more CEL, scan for codes ag...
FWIW update, installed a new Denso (original type) upstream O2 sensor ($150 from Advance Auto Parts , connector matched perfect), cleared the code with the ScanGauge and no more CEL, case closed.
Everything I've read says P0031 is bank 1 sensor 1, or the upstream A/F ratio sensor. I got the old OE sensor out (amazing how easy that was), in order to get the correct replacement O2 part number, and naturally it must be ordered. My plan is to remove the - battery cable 1st (to clear the code) an...
......and then the 'yota parts dude asks for the VIN, to narrow it down as to which O2 (multiple part #s based on VIN) and gives me that "deer in the headlights look" after I give them a non-'yota VIN.
Anyone have luck with a auto parts store replacement upstream O2 (O'reilly, Autozone, NAPA, etc)? How do u tell which one is the correct upstream O2? Local GM stealer, ah, dealership wants $247 for the part. Local Toyota house can't look it up without a Toyota VIN. I've got a CEL and code P0031.
So, how is one supposed to tell if the stealer, ah, dealer installed the correct PCM? The old/original PCM was part #89661-01133 and the 9th thru 12th digit of the Lot #5169....both numbers indicating "replace PCM". The new/replacement PCM just installed by the dealer is part #89661-02K43,...
CEL just now went steady on, ScanGauge shows P0031, clear code, CEL back on steady in a few seconds with P0031 again. Any updates about the O2 sensor and/or ECU since Nov '11? '05 base, automatic, 63K, flawless for 7 years, owned since new.
I need a pic of the passenger side taillight plugs from the inside. Vibes been in the body shop, I suspect wires were not put back correctly. Also, what's that black plug/connector. Thanks. '05 VibeUploaded with ImageShack.us
kbb is Kelly Blue Book....it's different from Black Book. You might try Google for Black Book. The local dealership here had a link on their website to Black Book as that's what they use for appraisals.
There's a ton of profit to be made in used cars. Here's an example, the local Toyota dealer has a used '07 RAV4 on their lot. I used their online "Appraise Your Trade-in" feature and I put in an '07 RAV4 with the same equipment and miles as my trade-in. The Black Book trade-in value for th...
Synthetic oil will get just as dirty, just as quickly as conventional oil. If you plan on extended drain intervals, you would be wise to get a UOA to see how the additives are holding up.
The Vibe engine is somewhat similar to a number of DOHC motorcycle engines. It uses "shims" to adjust and set proper valve clearance. Most people don't understand a DOHC, shim adjusted, mechanical valve train. Slappy (noisy) valves are happy valves, within factory spec of course. What wear...
With all that tubing/piping maybe it transforms into a 5 piece brass band, or something.........playing music to Sublimewind's ears when he mashes the go pedal. Man that puppy blows.....get it. ROTFLMAO
+1........Use your thumbnail to let air out of an inflated tire and feel how quickly your thumb will get cold, even when it's hot outside. Same principle is at work.....air moving rapidly from higher pressure (front side of TB butterfly) to lower pressure (back side of TB butterfly). Again, the circ...
Yeppers, that's the best pic. Can't believe we're both 58 (old farts relatively speaking) and both diggin' pics of a Vibe with really fat meats. Gotta luv those "bulging" tires.
Quote, originally posted by beemerphile1 »Change the oil now. The reason is that you need to remove all the corrosive byproducts of combustion that are suspended in the oil. Those corrosives will be sitting in there all winter munching away at the inside of the engine...........+10, change the oil ...
Quote, originally posted by Whelan »Didn't see that he was from FLA. But a tire that wide on a stock alloy would bulge out pretty badly. It would probably look silly to me. Nothing like a nice flat sidewall.ROTFLMAO, the only thing "bulging" about 225/50/16s on factory alloys is eyeballs ...
What's up with the snow tires........the OP is in Florida. Me thinks the 225/50/16 TripleTreds look sweet on our Vibe with the factory alloys........and others have commented favorably on the wide look.
225/60/16 is 7% taller than stock. No more than 3% taller is recommended. If you're looking to go with a wider tire (225), go with the 225/50/16. It's diameter is virtually identical to the stock 205/55/16. This way there's no effect/change to the speedo and no extra load on the engine, that a talle...
Quote, originally posted by DrunkenDixie »Yes your speedometer will be a difference since your going to a smaller tire.Isn't he going to a larger tire.....both taller and wider? A taller tire also places more load on the motor thus a taller tire is harder for the engine to turn. This will have a gr...
Can't answer that but other engines do use it. Our Saturn Vue V6 (Honda VTEC) has it as well as GM LS engines. Our 5.7L Tundra had it, IIRC. Even our old '92 5.7L Chevy P/U had it.
Quote, originally posted by djkeev »......................It is also possible, and I'm sorry here, that while you THINK you know how to drive a clutch, you may not actually KNOW how to.I've ridden with people whose clutch habits are just short of frightening and they think they are doing just fine....
You may want to reconsider the bypass, especially with winter coming on. It's been posted on the Internet that coolant is plumbed around the TB to heat the incoming air. That is NOT the engineering design and is a myth. The purpose is to prevent ice from forming on the backside of the TB butterfly, ...
Not sure what you're trying to accomplish but the Vibe engine uses COPs (coil on plug - not coil packs) which eliminate the spark plug wires. This is somewhat different from the coil packs used on a GM LS motor that still use spark plug wires.
One more reason why I would go with the Prestone. If you click on the pic to enlarge it, you can plainly see on the bottle that it's compatible with any brand, any color, any make, any metal and again, you can get it anywhere. Just pour it in the radiator (ENGINE COLD) 'till it's full to the top, th...
Hard to tell from the video but the tapping noise sounds too fast/rapid for a bottom end knock, unless the engine is idling fast. Sure it's not coming from the top? That engine has a mechanical valve train and uses shims to adjust valve clearance. Good luck....keep us posted.
If you want to stay pink, orange, red or whatever Prestone makes GM DexCool........http://www.prestone.com/produc...lant2........but you may not be able to find it everywhere, like you can the green stuff. Sure hope Prestone manages there business better than GM.
My I suggest that if you flush with distilled water and don't drain the block (just the radiator), fill the system with the full strength Prestone, not the 50/50 pre-diluted. That way the full strength stuff will mix with the distilled water in the block and give you a +/- 50/50 mix. Also, I found t...
