This forward vs. backward is my case as well.

Are your backing plates rusted as mine are? I'd rather not spend $300 and a lot of work just to find out that doesn't solve the issue.

The 2003 GT 2ZZ engine is called the "LNK" by GM.
The un-GT 1ZZ is "LV6"
The 6-Speed is a "C60" and it is not shown in the GM service manual.

Still chasing my bearing grumble.

Reading what I find, Monkeywrench sells a special socket to get the pulley off the tensioner.
I infer it's not just E-Torx?

And do both the idler and tensioner use that? They seem to be the same pulleys.

Matrix XR = 1zz Matrix XRS = 2zz Vibe = 1zz Vibe GT = 2zz Thanks. I've looked around for both pulleys. Dayco reports that their 89144 is the pulley for both the tensioner and idler. Monkey Racing mentions a special socket for the tensioner pulley; it looks like it may be a E-Torx one. Correct?

We got smarter today. My friend climbed inside and looked back between the 2 layers.
He could see the protrusions mentioned in the aforementioned thread.
With eyes on the characters, it was possible to lift the rear barrier and fully open the sunshade.

We used two 1.25" wide/0.125" thick bars today.
We could get them past the back lip of the sunshade, but twisting them did not allow us to get the shade back.

Are there actual stops that catch on the back end of the glass, or is it the lip (such as at the front edge) we are dealing with?

We adjusted, tested, adjusted again, both wheels. No grease or oil in the drums. I wire brushed them and used emery cloth. My mechanic friend wonders about the quality of the cast iron but that's a Hail Mary. I don't like the lever; I wish it went to horizontal when released and had more travel, but...

But when I pull the lever, the cable is taut up there.
(There are more clicks available on the lever..)

The two cables vanish into the Twlight Zone above the heat shields.

We pulled the windshield cowl to clear the screens, and found a mouse nest under the wiper motor.
We vacuumed it out and flushed the trough with a hose. Both sides drain enthusiastically.
