Re: when should I say good-bye?

This seems to be a very appropriate thread to say good bye on. Donated my 2010 2.4L base with 280,000 miles to Cars for Veterans. The engine burns a liter of oil every 500 miles; however, it purrs like new when full of oil. Transmission shifts like a dream. All things Toyota work on the car and all ...

Vibe vs. Honda Fit

Looking to replace my 2010 Base Vibe with a 2018 Honda Fit. Researching the Fit, every reviewer agrees that it is loud/noisy on the highway.

Has anyone driven both vehicles and can advise whether the Fit is louder than the Vibe (which I find pretty noisy) at highway speeds?

Re: What's the max milage you'd buy a Vibe at?

I purchased my 2010 2.4l Vibe 4 years ago with 160,000 miles. Now it has 257k. Nothing but regular maintenance. Yes, it does burn copious amount of oil, but that's just my luck.

I'd have no issues purchasing the same with 175k.

So my 2010 (2.4L, automatic) with 236k shakes at idle, when in gear. If it's in Neutral, does not shake/vibrate. Current thinking is that the torque converter could be causing it.

Thoughts?

I use semi-synthetic oil and change it every 5,000 miles. Using Toyota oil filter that I purchase on Amazon. Have 235k on a 2010 2.4L engine that burns a quart of oil every 1,000 mile. Other than that, no issues at all.

Yes, estimate seems pretty high. I'd get a second quote. Recently replaced my front rotors and brake pads, using Bosch quiet rotors and Akabono brake pads. So far, very pleased with their performance.

My vote is on changing the fluid. That was the 1st thing I did when bought the 2010 Vibe with 160k miles. Changed all the fluids, including transmission. After 1,000 miles, changed the transmission fluid again. Now the car has 170k miles and shifts like a dream.

Great choice on the Subaru. Volkswagens have poor quality and reliability history after the initial wow factor wears off. Yes, the Boxer engine is somewhat of a challenge to work on (spark plug replacement, etc.), but all in all, Subaru is a quality car.
