Re: Stripped Transmission Nut

I tried to explain this to my dad and he also couldn't understand. So, I guess I don't be explain' no good! :D So, a screw or a bolt is the male end. A hole or a nut is female. The transmission pan either has a nut welded to it, or you're actually screwing into the pan itself. Either way, the thread...

Re: Stripped Transmission Nut

Thanks for the help, guys. So, the 35106-12100 part number is for the regular front wheel drive...and the Matrix, Corolla, and Vibe are all the same? I found one on Ebay for $20! And it looks like it comes with the right length screw too: Capture.JPG And, if my original post was hard to understand: ...

Stripped Transmission Nut

Hey, guys. 298,000 on our 2008 and still running strong! My GF drives like a maniac and doesn’t tell me until 7000 miles that I need to change the oil so I don’t know how long it will last, but from that kind of neglect I must say it’s been a great car for $2000! Water pump and starter were both sup...

Re: Best Transmission Fluid Type

Thanks, guys. So, I was out in 20 degree F weather last night. Tires were covered in snow so I couldn't even drive all the way up on ramps. I got half way up the ramp and locked the rear brakes: high enough! Truthfully you don't need ramps or a jack, though it does make it easier. Upon inspection th...

Best Transmission Fluid Type

This topic has been discussed a lot, but after reading a dozen threads, I still can't decide which fluid. (I've decided the process, however, which I'll mention as review below.) Which fluid is the BEST to use? I'm assuming I want full synthetic. Car will get 25,000 miles per year. The T-IV is old a...

Changed Belt Tensioner, Still Rattling

I changed the tensioner and the piston assembly because the bearing in the flywheel was not smooth so I was sure this was what was making the noise. I had to jack the engine up to get the bolt out and everything. Now, however, the noise is still there. Sounds like it's coming from one of the pulleys...

Tensioner Pulley Replacement

I'm having a grinding noise and after pulling off the serpentine belt I realize that the tensioner pulley is the culprit. I've seen a video where the guy simply removes the pulley itself without having to remove the motor mount and jack up the motor, etc., to get at the bolt ( video here , nice how-...

Wires Inside of Shifter Broken

If you unscrew the two screws in the shifter and pull, you will break two wires connected to the "Overdrive Off" button on the shifter. Dummy I am I did this, and now I can't go into 3rd gear should I ever feel the need to do so. I unhooked the wires as best I could basically stuck them do...

I Changed Temp Control Bulbs

What a bi*ch! So, there are write-ups and videos on this, but I'll just share a little trick. The bulbs I'm talking about are those behind the temp control, vent control, and fan speed knobs. 1. First you take your fingers and pull the middle knob straight out and remove the screw under it. 2. Then ...

Arm Rest Console

The arm rest console is too low on our 2008 base. I've seen some people talking about using the "old" console cover or a "2 stage" console cover but I can't find more info on this. Would either of these mods give me the extra 2-3" in height so our arms reach down to the cons...

Beeping Alarm Threads

I've been poking around this site and other and whenever I find a thread about disabling the seatbelt alarm I get a link to a this thread that is 404 NOT FOUND. I've found this thread about clicking the odometer and turning the key and the link works, but can someone tell me if this fix in this link...

What is the purpose of these? You take the rack off and put that there for looks? For gas mileage?

Re: How many miles on your Vibes?

We just bought a 2008 in fairly good shape for $2000 with 285k on it. Guy sold it because he got a dent in the door (I found a guy with the same blue color door for $220 and going to stick it on). So, this car has gone 25,000 miles per year since it was born. We plan to put about that much on it in ...
