there is a low system pressure cutout switch between the relay and the compressor clutch, so if you're getting power through the relay, but not to the compressor clutch, you could be low on refrigerant. My exhaust leak was the exhaust manifold outlet donut gasket. As for the cat outlet sensor, I don't think the actual voltage is important, as long as it's not jumping around like the inlet sensor is, then the cat is doing something productive.

Often the thing that takes a starter out of action is the brushes... they wear down to the point where the spring isn't really putting enough force to hold them against the armature, or the brush gets hung up, and is the case when tapping on the starter fixes it temporarily, it just needs a new brus...

This engine was used in a lot of different vehicles, so finding extra threaded holes comes as no surprise. The oil could be wicking back from the PCV threads or the filler cap.

My Vibe is currently sporting an exhaust manifold outlet gasket blowout. On startup with the vent set to fresh, I get a cabin full of rich smelling exhaust, I expect the air pickup door is right there by the exhaust manifold. Hoping for an inductive nut heater for christmas.

Joatmon - your suspicion is correct, the accessory is turned off while cranking to protect the radio, etc. from the voltage dip and current spike.

A fresh set of spark plugs is definitely warranted. Turn them out a half turn and shoot some penetrant down around them and give it time to soak into the threads, then turn them out slowly. Normally they come out with no problems.

generally the solenoids are plugged into the valve body, which is accessible after removing the transmission pan and filter. If you want more specific than that, you'll have to identify which transmission you have.

If your clutch did in fact die a violent death, debris from the explosion may be jammed into the starter and holding on to it. Hit it harder, or just carry on with the transmission removal and don't be surprised when at some point, it falls out on it's own.

If the battery were the problem, the voltage would drop much more dramatically. You are seeing that half volt drop in battery voltage due to the current draw of the solenoid, so I expect the relay and wiring to signal the solenoid is good. sometimes a bit of debris gets stuck under the plastic tab that you have to push down to unlatch it. If they give me trouble, I'll blow out the area with my air nozzle and it usually lets me disengage the clip.
