Re: New to the forum

Welcome to Genvibe. I replaced the clutch on my 2003 GT three years ago. Had to pull the engine to get the tranny off. The two main things are to get a Haynes or Chilton manual and don't be intimidated. Sounds like you have a good mechanical background so #2 should not be a problem. Take your time, ...

Re: How many miles before your fuel pump failed

My 2003 GT has 203k miles and I have never replaced the fuel pump. I don't think they are prone to failure like in the old days. I mean for those of us who were around in the old days.

Re: Two Questions, Please help

Jerry, I think I missed the part about you having been the last one to change the oil. My guess then is that the car has developed an oil leak. A puddle can usually be traced back to a source, but it might require crawling under there with a flashlight. You have to kind of get to know the lay of the...

Re: Two Questions, Please help

A brand name muffler shop (Midas?) should be able to fix the heat shield and would tend to be reputable. If the bolt can not be removed and replaced, chances are the shield can simply be wired up in place. Bailing wire is a great tool for many purposes. Don't knock it. There are only two places oil ...

Re: Joining the 200k mile club

Calivibes55 I replaced the fuel injectors thinking it would correct a high idle speed issue. In neutral the engine would idle anywhere from 1200 - 1600 RPM. 900 RPM is more normal. I could tap the gas petal and it would often settle down. I had heard or read that a clogged injector will cause the ot...

Re: car top carrier

Nice carrier. Looks very effective and inexpensive. I've carried some lattice on top of mine but not plywood. With the front and rear passenger seats folded, you can also carry 8 foot lumber - with the rear hatch closed. Lay some boards down and wrap the seat belt over the boards and click it into p...

Re: Joining the 200k mile club

I just hit 200k last month with my '03 GT. The clutch lasted 177k miles. The clutch had been slipping for a while and I finally parked it when I wasn't sure it would get me to work and back another time. I probably pushed that too far. Anyway, while I had the engine out to replace the clutch, I repl...

Re: New member from OK

Thanks guys. Hey Salsa Guy, my GT is pretty much stock due to budgetary restrictions brought on by child rearing expenses (two in college until just recently), my other automotive projects, and the cost of maintaining five cars in the family. I probably won't modify much it at its advanced age, but ...

Re: beermestrength - 2003 Vibe GT

beermestrength, I hope you are still enjoying your '03 Vibe GT. I have one also (red) that I have had since '05. It has been a really great car. I know you'll be driving it for a long time. Mine has been very reliable - never left me stranded. The clutch finally gave up around 177k miles. Rather tha...

Wow. That certainly is...um....unique. Obviously someone spent a lot of time building this hybrid car/camper. It shows a good use of available space.

Have a 2003 Vibe GT (since 2005) that hit 200,000 miles last month. A very dependable and versatile car.
