Re: Replacing Gas Tank

Finally got it done today. Broke several bolts holding the exhaust shield to the tank. Broke one bolt holding the parking brake cable. Drilling and tapping those added a bit of time to the job. I also sprayed some rust converter and some high temp silver spray paint on that rusty shield and the meta...

Re: Replacing Gas Tank

Well, the patch I put on the tank didn't last long. So for the last several months I've been keeping the tank less than 1/2 full and backing it into our driveway so gas doesn't leak everywhere. I ordered the new tank and a few other bits from RockAuto and hope to get the tank replaced this weekend. ...

Re: Replacing Gas Tank

Yesterday we has some relatively warm (60 degrees F) and dry weather so I applied the repair kit to the gas tank. I used the kit that came with the liquid like epoxy, fiberglass resin, yellow mastic, and a disposable small brush for application. I prepped the area by using my small rotary tool with ...

Re: Replacing Gas Tank

I'm in the exact same boat. The tank is leaking from the area around the vent tube that's on the upper rear of the tank. So this weekend, I'm going to try to patch it with the Permatex Fuel Tank Repair Kit (Part #: BK 09101). My hope is to get it to last until the weather is warmer then I can replac...

Re: New member (was jeffnf)

Welcome back. My 2zz has almost 150k and doesn't burn a drop. You running the 1zz? I don't have the car with me to check, but I do believe it has the 1.8 L 1ZZ-FE (LV6) I4 (gasoline) engine (that's the low output one, right?). Unfortunately, the car has seen a lot of idling and short trips over the...

Re: New member (was jeffnf)

Cincinnati Ohio. Profile updated. I'm hoping I can get another 100k miles out of the Vibe. Based on what I've heard and read, that shouldn't be a problem for a Toyota 4 cylinder engine. I tend to keep my cars as long as I can to avoid having more than one car payment. I recently got rid of my 1991 F...

New member (was jeffnf)

My old account here wouldn't let me log in (jeffnf), so I just created a new one (Jeff2). We have a 2004 Pontiac Vibe that we bought new. It's got about 130k miles on it right now. I've got to get the A/C fixed, which is why I thought I'd check back in on this forum. I'll be testing the A/C clutch o...

Re: A/C Troubleshooting

Unfortunately my other vibe now has lost its ac and I will be replacing the compressor based on lack of pressure difference between the low and high side and will also replace the receiver dryer, vacuuming the system and adding oil and refrigerant. Going to go cheap on this one and have a used comp...
