Re: Axles too short

The movement is in the tripod joint. If I had that kind of movement in any American vehicle Ive owned I couldnt drive it for the vibration at any speed would be horrendous. On my Chrysler minivan i had a vibration and it was caused by a barely perceptible movement in the shaft. This car drives fine ...

Re: Axles too short

Ihaveavibe- I do know if you drive the car in tight circles right and left ,in a parking lot and you hear popping, that the the axle on the outside of the circle is bad. My problem is vibration at high speeds when my tires are balanced. The traditional way for U.S. cars is to get under the vehicle w...

Re: Axles too short

Thanks Hogdoctor I hadnt even considered swapping out the joints to my shafts. Clearly these boots were attached totally compressed and they stay that way. Its not like they are stretched way up the axle, keeping the joint tight, instead the boots are actually very compressed, unlike the boots on th...

Re: Axles too short

Thankyou 4 your replies, i thought i would get an email notice but didnt so I thought no one had replied. I see now u have to check a box for that. Regarding the popping out. It sure feels like alot more than air since it is kind of hard to compress and immediately pops right back out when not being...

Axles too short

So I searched the forum but found no answer and I find it hard to believe Im the only one with the problem. I have a 2004 vibe with Auto trans, no ABS, No AWD, no GT. I got replacement axles and they are too short. I took off the right side and installed the new one and the shaft didnt come all the ...

Replaced radio bulbs, now wont light

I had one bulb lighting the panel on the radio. I pulled the radio and soldered in 3 new bulbs to light the panel and now none of them light. I pulled it and put 12v to the bulbs one at a time and all light together each time. I traced the power 'in' wire(blue) and it has continuity to the bulbs. I ...

Re: how much play is OK in CV Joints

Btw, I have noted some posts on this forum where people r ck,ing their play with the wheels off the ground, that's incorrect. With the wheels hanging you introduce play in the CV joints. Axles should only be ck'd with the tires supported just as when driving, that's why I noted mine were on ramps.

Re: how much play is OK in CV Joints

Thanks for your response. As I stated, front to back, not in and out. I've never try to move the axle up and down because laying on your back you get the most torque moving the axle front to back where even a slight movement would be perceptible. Did say I've been doing this for nearly 50 years. Hav...

how much play is OK in CV Joints

In 50 years of repair Ive never come across this. Searched the board but found no answer. I was changing the oil and trans fluid with the tires on ramps and grabbed the axles to ck for front to back play and they both moved considerably yet the vibe drives fine, no vibration. It has been my experien...
