Hmmm... doesn't quite answer my question, however I did learn some new information about the orientation of the offset mounts. Thanks!

Strut Boot Orientation + Knocking

Hello, I just replaced my front struts (just the struts and boots, not a whole kit) on my 04' base vibe. These are the struts: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/monroe-gas-matic-strut-82117/11499891-P These are the boots: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/driveworks-strut-bellow-dw-k90461/110500...

Re: P0420 and gas issue??

Thanks for the links, that's great. I'm hoping it's something along the lines of an 02 sensor and not a bad cat. It does have 190k on it though and to my knowledge never had the cat replaced- so, maybe it time? We'll see.

P0420 and gas issue??

So around the same time my check engine light came on and I also started thinking I was running through gas way to quickly. I haven't had time to actually check my current mileage, but I got the check engine light checked and its a P0420 Catalytic code. The car is a 04' fwd manual base. Are these tw...

Re: Front Brake Tutorial Images

Here are the youtube videos. Be warned that there is pretty annoying political commentary throughout that he keeps going into... but the tutorial seems pretty solid to me otherwise. He also does a really good video on disassembling and re-assembling the rear brake drums. Part 1: https://www.youtube....

Front Brake Tutorial Images

The photos from the "front brake tutorial" (viewtopic.php?f=26&t=24417) are missing. Is there somewhere I can access these?

Thanks in advance,

Re: PCV Valve

I just got my PCV Valve off my 04' base to check it out. I'm guessing it may have never been replaced (184k miles)- though I'm not sure- here's a pic:

Can someone point me in the direction of a cheap aftermarket radio to replace the broken one that came with my 04' vibe?

PCV Valve

Hello, I want to check on my PCV valve, but it seems it would take a lot of force to unscrew it. In fact it's even hard to tell that the bolt part is a seperate piece of metal from the body. Should I just really go for it and torque the ratchet? When I re-tighten it should I get it really tight agai...

Re: Idle rpm

Noticed today actually- when I first turned it on the rpms started going from about 1800-2200 and back again every 2 seconds or so. It would rev and then settle, rev, and then settle. Is this something others have noticed before? Is it part of the cooling cycle when you first turn it on?

That makes sense- but it does seem a little coincidental that yesterday the lights worked before going into the dealership- and now they are out.

Re: Airbag Recall- Dealer Necessary?

Well, just to confirm- got my car back from the dealership after getting the airbag and some part of the seat belt restraint fixed on recall. Got in the car and... the radio lights are all off. I think I saw a thread on here somewhere about how to fix this- just a fuse maybe? I guess they were messi...

Re: Airbag Recall- Dealer Necessary?

I called my local GMC dealer- the said they needed to order the parts and it should take about a week for them to arrive. But yes, they should do it now if the parts are available.

Unless they are just saying that in a scheme to- you know- break my car.

Re: Idle rpm

Ok, so new info- when I first start the car the rpm sits around 2,000. I can hear it audibly for sure. But then, after driving it briefly the idle rpm drops to around 1,000. Any insight as to what is going on??

Much thanks,

Idle rpm

For an manual 04' vibe, what is normal idling rpm? Currently mine varies a bit between 1500 and 2000 though I need to do a little more experimenting.

Thanks,

Airbag Recall- Dealer Necessary?

I bought a used 04' vibe recently and it needs the airbag recall fixed. I don't have the paperwork that originally described the recall. Do I NEED to take it to an official GM dealership for it to be free? Or will the company pay a difference garage to handle the recall? Sorry if this is a silly que...

Is there a reason people replace with a 6-speed besides the power difference? Are they generally more reliable?

What's Up / Used 04' Manual / Need Advice

What's up everybody? I'm new here and brand new to owning a vibe. I was looking around and saw one pop up on craigs list and thought- I wonder how those are? I went to see it, and for a car with that many miles everything amazingly well maintained and clean. The clutch felt good, no sounds, etc. Lon...
