feels like I've posted too much in this thread already, but seeing its the right time of year for the most recent challenge, thought I'd give it a bump

Let's see a picture of your car with some fall foliage!
Vibe meets fall foliage - going backwards and spinning, at ~40+ mph...
Thanks for the help. I've been unable to find, or get an answer from a seller with a good Vibe. So... Looks like I will be moving over to the Vibe's 'brother from another mother', a Scion xB. Like the Vibe, it's really a Toyota by another name. I'm going Wed to pick it up. ...It's a sad/happy situat...
Although it wasn't a rear end collision, it *was* a rear end collision when all was said and done :D and so the airbags stayed put. Powertrain has only 116K on it. That's what *really* bums me out, and I know that the insurance pukes are going to lowball me and won't have any idea of how much that i...
Thanks, Caretaker! Injuries were thankfully only soft tissue, and while painful hopefully not lifelong, so that's good. You are spot on about the insurance company, they are d*cking me around already, even though I do have a lawyer and have been a non-claimant customer with them for 40 years. They'l...
Hi Viberz - A couple weeks ago a guy with serious Vibe-envy (he had a giant Chevy pickup) turned left onto me when I was traveling @ ~50mph. Though I was paying attention and avoided a head-on, his side swipe spun me out into trees at roadside and we hit going backwards at probably ~40mph. I think m...
My dark gray '06 is sitting at 116K right now, she had 86K on her when I got her - I think that was 5 years ago? Only thing I wish I could change would be to not have the plastic cladding that they dropped in the later years. It's a pain to maintain, though I did find a really good product for that....
I didn't know whether or not there was an amp for the antenna or not, so I just hooked up the antenna power wire on the 'droid harness/plug to the appropriate one on the stock harness, in case that was what was meant by 'antenna power'. :) After testing, as far as I can tell I have no signal loss - ...
Wow, this thing came *fast* - I think maybe 7 days from Hong Kong. Showed up early this past week. Put it in the car today, about a 3.5 hour process all told with no prep whatsoever, and am impressed. Using a pinout guide I found here on GenVibe, I pulled the metal connectors from inside of the OEM ...
Been comparison looking for a while now and decide to go in on this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2016-NEW-1024-600-Car-Stereo-Android-4-4-2Din-QUAD-CORE-GPS-Navi-Autoadio-Player/272243641553? It's not the Pumpkin/Christmas brand, but I'm hoping will perform just fine anyway, as it is a great price p...
Looking really good, I like your setup, the GPS antenna should work fine in the A pillar. I ran across some vids on YT where people were using regular 7" tablets, mounted inside double-DIN faceplates. I have 2 of those so am considering going that route, though it is more complicated and would ...
Road trip yesterday, 425 miles or so, pleased to see the MPG's climb well up over 33. As I am still running on the old rubber, and averaged a bit over the speed limit for most of the trip, I could probably have gotten 35 without trying too hard. Beats the heck out of 20mpg's or so in the Astro, even...
Power to the People! Glad it worked out OK for you!
BenWA - Funny, I saw that dashcam video before - it was included in one of those 'bad drivers' video mashups you see on YT. lol Wish I could remember which one for you...
Necroing this topic, since the issue still plagues us... I tried a straight copy of textual links, replacing the 'zerothread' bits with the proper phpBB3 syntax, and while that does lead to links working, the thread numbers do not seem to align with the topics they are supposed to... Reading thru th...
Where did you get the "porch" tent from? IIRC, it from a closeout site named "woot.com" Addendum: Picked up a few pieces-parts from nyfan08/Bob, including among them a set of crossbars for the roof rack. Had a devil of a time trying to find the way to install these using the &qu...
Latest pic: PDebadged the side and front logos, and also the front grill inserts. Did to the passenger side wheels what I had done to the drivers side. Got some window-edge rainshield thingies, new cabin air filter coming tomorrow, new front floormats, fixed drivers power window regulator. New tires...
We have a really good and well-known Wooden Boat Festival here every fall, and get to see many of those old classics. And one of the guys who has a shed near mine, keeps both his old woodie Chris Crafts here. One is in mint condition, show ready, and he only pulls it out for the Boat Show, and maybe...
'03 Chevy Astro Passenger Van - Love the Astro van, though the mileage is nowhere near as good as the Vibe, 22+ on the hwy isn't bad for a vehicle with the aerodynamics of a giant brick on wheels. :) It also has an enormous fan base of owners and thus great knowledge available online for fixing, fi...
...and here's what they look like on the car. RIMS220160301_133139.jpg RIMS220160301_133113.jpg EDIT: From here on out, unless it is a big project, I'm just going to append minor fixes/upgrades/progress reports to the last/previous post as an edit. No point in making a whole new post to say "To...
Had a bit of change up to my plans, as tends to happen. :) Started to shoot first black coat of Plastidip on rims today, and likes what I saw even after the first 'mist' coat, so I ran with it and this is the result (at least for now). A light black specklepaint on top of the reg'lar old silver plas...
Man am I glad you don't have an '06 or even earlier - this is a long thread!
*Very* nice ride, kudos!
How's that Hinda antenna working out? Have you noticed any difference WRT reception? The stock Vibe antenna works great, but an equally good antenna half its size would be a bonus.
Been putting at least a couple hours a day of 'sweat equity' into the Vibe, along with parts and whatnot. 2 heavy coats of plastic protectant, inside and out, all the way around. That made a big difference in her appearance. Windows cleaned spotless, vacuumed twice (holding off on a steam cleaning f...
The tradeoff for getting to use CL and find some great deals is learning to filter through the crap ads and the crap people. +1 to that! Just remembered - when I was researching this Vibe, I noticed that the car pricing guides (Edmunds, KBB, etc), have a tool for you to look at cars, sear...
Put some liquid love on the body cladding this evening, & noticed that I am missing the drivers side small grill piece, next to the fog lamp. Will have to find one of those. Also got the headlight lens polished, they were starting to craze and yellow a bit. Last, noticed that the steel wheels ar...
Perhaps look elsewhere. Before I bought the '06, I was listing it for a friend on CL (for a percentage of sale price). In over a month, I had exactly *2* responses, one which when I called back never got in contact, the other from a guy who was going to be back in town in 3 weeks, and - get this - I...
Had to try out the 'porch' tent. Fits pretty good on the Vibe tailgate.

The "new" tail light lens from off of eBay, at about 1/2 cost of 'real' New. ;) It was in replacing this that I could see the car has only been waxed once, if ever, in it's entire life. Also, these are good leaf/dirt catchers; might be a good idea to pull and clean behind them annually or bi-annually, if you plan to keep your Vibe corrosion free for a long, long time.

Sorry to necro this thread, but I am just old enough that when I was growing up, an automatic transmission was usually an extra, a luxury, not something most kids my age had on their cars. In fact, few people *didn't* know how to drive a shift - and you got made fun of, if you didn't. :P I hadn't re...
Funny you should say that... :) I just went over to pull the battery and stick it on the charger, see if 'pumping it up' a bit would make a difference. After I had pulled the cables from the posts, I thought to myself "Hmm, what if doing that reset something...". So I stuck them back on th...
ON EDIT - thankfully, it turned out to be nothing more than a bad connection at the battery terminals. Did some more cleaning and fixing up of the new-to-me '06 yesterday, and the tail light lens came in earlier than expected. Monday is windshield replacement, and then she'll be road read...
So that's all for now. Last night, for today, I bought some cleaning supplies and a little 'bling' for her in the way of a steering wheel cover. I did odor-remover bomb the interior overnight, so hopefully most of the rank smell will be gone today. Going to steam clean for sure, might wind up replac...
There's being dirty, and then there's *this*... As if the PO/ALE was seeking to redefine the concept of 'nasty'... These shots really don't do justice to the grime-encrusted interior he achieved...
Nasty, nasty interior - ashes and dog fur everywhere, can't have been cleaned in the last year or two or more... Yes, that is a pile of ashes on top of the instrument cluster...

Broken, nasty stuff. Sigh.

Blech. Took like an hour for an initial vacuuming. What you see on teh carpets was *under* the floor mats. Thinking that I am going to go get a steam cleaner today.
The hatch dent came from the PO/ALE throwing a gas can after unsuccessfully trying to siphon fuel from his fathers boat. Not sure how/when he managed to so thoroughly destroy the tail lens. New one is ordered, to be here in a couple days.

Both rear quarters have these many small dents where the PO/ALE beat on her, then tried to beat the evidence back out.
So here she is, as I posted in my intro "rode hard and put up wet". Neglected and filthy, and a little bit abused. All that is changing, and things are looking up for her. Planning to outfit her as a 'microRV' for road trips and car camping. 20160218_132212.jpg 20160218_132224.jpg 20160218...
Also update profile for us showing location. We could literally be your neighbor and not know it. Done. :) The actual city name is Georgetown. It's tiny and relatively unknown outside of the state, so for those not familiar the way I wrote it should make it easier to place. Currently shopping on eB...
I'll post up some pics tomorrow, before I do any cleaning or anything, start a thread... But be warned, you won't like what you see. :) This afternoon made an appointment for the windshield replacement (Monday), found an '06 taillight on eBay in nice shape for about 1/2 retail, that'll be here Tuesd...
She's an '06 model, only 86K on the odo, grey color, base model, been sore neglected, rode hard and put up wet (but I'm gonna take care of that). I'd never paid Vibes much attention, until a friend said he was selling and asked me to help him list it on CL and such. Learned more about the car in tha...
