Re: Are There TPMS Sensors in the Wheels?

Does the indicator light go on when you first turn the key to on (not starting engine, though)? No, it never lights. Just wanted to make sure you were looking in the right place because the light doesn't stay on long. The indicator is next to the fuel gauge, about 1/2" to the left of the "...

That hole was tapped M5x.8. The two sizes are so close as to be nearly indistinguishable, #10 being .007 in. smaller. An M5 screw may not fit in a 10-32 nut, but a 10-32 will always fit an M5.

Re: AWD Tire Pressure Question

Probably because there's more weight over the front wheels than the rear wheels. In between the front wheels is the entire engine and transmission. In between the rear wheels is, usually, an empty metal box. That would explain it generally (both FWD and AWD), but why only for the AWD? The weight of...

AWD Tire Pressure Question

From the owner's manual, I find that Toyota recommends 32 psi tire pressure front and rear for FWD vehicles, but 35 front and 32 rear for AWD. WHY??? The recommendations for tires on the AWD state that all tires must be the same brand and have the same tread pattern , presumably to ensure equal diam...

Re: Would this be a thermostat issue?

100% sounds like a thermostat issue. A plugged heater core wouldn't result in the engine temperature staying low for a long time. I'd drain the whole system and replace the thermostat. What he said. I've experienced similar issues on my 4th Gen Hondas several times. Won't warm up idling, warms very...

If you followed the process correctly (copied from the manual here http://forums.genvibe.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=44795&p=508827#p508827 ), you won't see any feedback. I followed that procedure. It states: 4. Press and hold the SET (reset) button until the low-tire warning light come...

Are There TPMS Sensors in the Wheels?

I've been finding some conflicting answers to the question, so I thought I'd just ask it straight out. From reading the description of the TPMS, it would appear that there are no sensors in the wheels and all monitoring is done thru the drive-train/braking systems. Is this correct? When I replaced m...

Re-Badging VW Alloy Wheels

I got a killer deal on a set of New Beetle alloy wheels with studded snow tires on them. Of course, they had the VW logo on the center caps, which was completely unacceptable. I ordered some Toyota logo stickers in the proper size from these people. http://3dcarstickers.com/en/ Shipping took over 2 ...

This thread is a little old, but I thought I'd post my impressions. I have a set of Blizzaks on one of my Civic RT4WDs. I bought them used and already mounted on 15 in. rims. Re: pontiac awd And snow chains: 2 sets or 1 set?

As long as your tires are rated M+S (mud & snow), you probably won't need any chains. It's very rare that conditions are so bad that chains are required on 4WD with snow tires. If you must mount chains, put them on both front and back to prevent damage to the viscous coupler. If you live where t...

Almost forgot. The Toyota wheels use a special lug nut with a round "snout" that locates the wheel instead of the more common tapered seat. I had to use Honda lug nuts to mount the New Beetle alloys. Expect this with non-Toyota wheels. Something like this? https://www.zekescustomwheels.co...

Here's a video showing removal and replacement of the VC bearings. The procedure would be the same for the VC.

I would recommend doing the bearings while doing the VC.

Good stuff, thanks. Fortunately, California does not salt the roads and the low humidity keeps rust problems down. I will be checking the frame rails just to be sure. I have found an '05 with 250k on it for $2500, previously a company car. Haven't seen it yet.

I've just joined this forum, so here's a little background. I live in the mountains of northern California, we get snow, sometimes a lot. The roads can get icy and my unpaved driveway is steep, so AWD/4WD is a must. I have been a longtime fan of the '88-91 Honda RT4WD wagons (I have 3). My wife rece...
