Re: How many miles on your Vibes?

So I ended up getting a new starter put in. Cost me $335 and it seems to have solved the issue! Cranks right up, and quicker than it did before with no grinding sound. So I'm pretty sure, after looking through my maintenance records (I keep all my paper copies and put them into a spreadsheet) that ...

Re: How many miles on your Vibes?

Okay thanks y'all! After doing a little research it does make sense that It would be the bendix gear since I had a new flywheel installed. Maybe the pinion gear was worn down and is slipping off the flywheel? Because it usually cranks a couple times and then I hear the whine when it disengages. Do y...

Re: How many miles on your Vibes?

If it is the Bendix gear inside the Denso starter, then I would not use the word whine to describe it. It is a scratchy metal on metal grinding noise sounding like rubbing your brass knuckles across your barbecue grate. The Bendix gear issue also does not result in a non-start situation. The car st...

Re: How many miles on your Vibes?

I am about 500 miles away from hitting 370K! 06 Base, manual transmission. A few months ago my alternator went and left me stranded. That was the first major job it needed in quite a while. Also had a new serpentine belt put in when that happened. Other more major items have been all new rotors, dru...

Re: Idle rpm

I have a 2006 base model with a manual transmission, 317,000 miles and still running well. On a cold day when I start it up it does idle at about 2000 for a few minutes before settling down my normal idle which is about 900. When it had less miles it did idle at about 800 but I figure with the amoun...

Re: Latest airbag recall is out

My 2006 Base Vibe is going into the GM dealer tomorrow to get the passenger inflator module replaced. I got the letter from GM on Tuesday indicating the parts are ready and I was able to get it scheduled for Thursday! I'm in the Denver area.

EDIT- It's Recall #14491

Re: Another PO171 Thread. 2006 Vibe Base

Well I brought it in for an oil change and had them check for a vac leak and they couldn't find one. Maybe I did just forget to tighten the gas cap once. They cleared the code and it's been about 200 miles and it hasn't came back on. They did find a small exhaust leak at the donut and said the serpe...

Re: How many miles on your Vibes?

I'm at about 308,600 miles now. The CEL just came on (PO171, fuel system lean). I made a thread over in the "problems/warranty issues" section of the board. The car seems to be running normally, at least for a car with that many miles. The manual transmission feels solid. It does accelerat...

Another PO171 Thread. 2006 Vibe Base

Hello fellow Vibers. First off, I love this car as I'm sure many of you do as well. Mine has just about 309,000 miles. It's a manual trans, believe it or not with the original clutch. Pretty much all highway miles on it. Most of those miles were put on in Maine/northeast, but I moved out the Colorad...

Re: How many miles on your Vibes?

Have about 304800 on my 06 base! Nearly all Highway miles too so the original clutch is still working pretty well. I have 315,000 miles on my 2007 Vibe. And yes, it does stop at 299,999. Since then I have been using the tripometer to keep track of how many more miles I have put on it. So every 10,00...

Thanks all for the warm welcome!

@trb @vibrologist thanks for the information. I don't know if the transmission fluid has actually ever been changed. And yea I don't down shift to slow down anymore.

New Member in Colorado! '06 Base 304K Miles

I've been reading this forum a fair bit recently, looking mainly for the high mileage Vibers out there! Good to see a fair amount of people over the 300K Mile mark. I have an '06 Base, and lucky me that my dad gave it to me when he retired and bought a new car. He worked for the Maine DOT and drove ...
