Re: Engine Stalls After Transmission Swap

Brought the car into a shop. It was drive-able, but something felt bad. Shop said that something in the tranny is broken, possibly due to installation. I have a warranty on it so I will be returning the transmission to get some money back then parting out the vibe to see if I can at least break even...

Re: Engine Stalls After Transmission Swap

Turns out I got my description a little backwards. What actually is going on is that the engine starts and now shifts, but has a drop of rpm, almost to the point of stalling, when releasing the clutch pedal (opposite of the first description). I adjusted the clutch pedal but this is still going on. ...

Re: Engine Stalls After Transmission Swap

I've been reading around on the internet. I was worried that maybe the Throw Out Bearing or Clutch Plate was installed backwards. I remember putting in the clutch plate backwards at first, then realizing this when it was difficult to get the pressure plate bolts started. So that shouldn't be an issu...

Engine Stalls After Transmission Swap

Hi all, I just completed a 2007 5mt to 2003 (Matrix) 6mt swap. The car starts and idles fine, but when I press the clutch pedal in the engine begins to stall, and will if I continue to press it further. Did I do something in reverse? If so how would I check easily. -I replaced the clutch and flywhee...

Re: 5 Speed Transmission Problems and Replacement

I suspect some of those early failures are due to the fact that (at least with my 2006 Matrix) Toyota doesn't recommend changing the trans oil except when towing. I've owned 3 5-speed Hondas and they all called for changing the trans oil every 30k miles. I changed the oil in my Matrix early at 21k ...

Anyone Using Asymmetrical Wheels/Tires?

Hi guys, wondering if anyone else has been using an asymmetrical wheel/tire setup. Like wider wheels front vs back. Or stickier tread. I read about the old Pontiac Grand AM GTP's setup once, and have been chasing perfect handling through rubber ever since. I am currently running Goodrich G-Force Spo...

My "new" Vibe is slightly rough at low hot idle while in gear, at around 600 to 700 rpm per the dash tach. I don't think it's supposed to idle quite that low and suspect a sensor slightly out of spec somewhere, but I'm not going to worry about that now. All other conditions are smooth eno...

so far only the 5 speed manual transmission has been found to be weak. Avoid it or plan on swapping a 6 speed in. Who said the 5 speed was weak? I've had mine for 158K miles and it has held up just fine. Maybe if you don't change the fluid it will go bad. 2005-2008 years have throttle by wire which...

You got the stock head-unit right? The easiest option would be to get an FM modulator which will play your AUX input over a chosen FM channel. Doesn't work the best all the time though. Hardest would be to hard wire an aux input or switch into your head-unit. I would read up here for some steps. htt...

The packaging of the PS fluid should indicate if it can be mixed with other fluids. The pump us being worked hardest in P and at slow speeds. I really can't afford a separate set of snow tires. If you are feeling balls-y you could just buy fronts. I ran a set up with dunlop graspics in front and all seasons rear over 410 Pass in WA. Front snows give you increadable increases in stoping distance in sub-freezing dry temperatures. Just be r...

Actually the handeling is fine for spirited street use. You can feel the back sway towards the edge of grip, but smoothly resist it. Its funner then then the benign understeer most of us get. Still Im going to raise the front pressure to keep my emergency envelope wider.
