Re: Is the 1st Gen Pontiac Vibe AWD a good bet?

In my opinion, an AWD Vibe is unnecessary for 99% of drivers out there. My advice is to buy a FWD vibe and run quality snow tires on it. Plenty of owners out there who do brilliantly with their FWD Vibes in the snow. Honestly, I did great with relatively new all-season tires (Arizonan Silver Editio...

Re: Vibester has arrived!

Building a GT is always a good option. Many will tell you that you're probably better off just buying a GT instead of trying the swap a 2ZZ into a base, but its pretty straight forward swap as I understand it. Probably best to at least have a complete donor car so you'd have everything you need.

Re: Rough idle in only cold weather.

But why only in cold weather? You would think that if something was wrong the check engine light would go off all the time. I'd start by replace the intake gasket. Only get the updated orange gasket from Toyota. It shouldn't cost you more than $20 and is relatively easy to do. I've done it on two d...

Welcome. Nice looking Vibe and it sounds like you're doing what you can to take care of it. That being said, is there a reason you're only running your Royal Purple Synthetic for 5,000 km? Without more information, my guess would be something related to the rear differential. When was the last time the fluid level was checked or fluid replaced? I don't own an AWD, so I don't have any first hand experience, but I've heard that the rear diff can be an issue on the AWD cars. Hopefully so...

I have a bit of experience in both cases having lived in Florida along the coast for a few years and in Michigan where salted roads are common. That's why I asked about the intake manifold. The 1ZZ in the MR2 looks just like the stock base Vibe engine. It could have the stock 1ZZ engine, with the ECU (Engine/Transmission computer) from the MR2. The ECU controls the Redline. Forsty mentioned it has "VVTL-i" that might be just the ...

Yeah, I need to see pics, especially of the engine bay. Not trying to be rude, but I really don't believe most of your story. A car with that many miles is by no means a lemon. The Vibe is one of the most reliable cars that GM never built. Its entirely possible that's the drivetrain out of an '03 Matrix XRS. There were a few made in '03 that had the auto-tragic transmission, though most had the C60 6-speed manual. *All* 03...
