Re: AWD rear suspension upgrade?

I can probably get a used complete rear cradle cheap. Regarding making the ride softer, other than using higher sidewall tires, there really isn'ta way. These cars have a front ssuspension cradle that bolts directly on the body. Most other cars like the Camry or my Buick have an isolated cradle that...

AWD rear suspension upgrade?

Hi guys. I had an 09 AWD White Vibe that got wrote off September last year. We just picked up a red FWD Vibe, and LOVE it. We drove 2 1/2 hours to get this one because it was red, FWD, and better yet, it has the 2.4 like our old one! Too bad we don't have an AWD, but the fuel mileage didn't justify ...

Re: Looking to Buy a Vibe...

No worries Kndeitz. Basically I was saying drive it easy. Keep the RPM'S low at all speeds, under 2500 would be ideal. Basically, drive it as if there is an egg between your foot and the gas pedal, lol. Do you have the 2.4?? Or is it the 1.8 like an older Vibe? I've driven a few 1.8 AWD's and they o...

Re: Looking to Buy a Vibe...

I have an 09 AWD vibe. The gas mileage is good in the summer. I get roughly 480-500 kms a tank if mostly highway driving. The best way to get more MPG's with these is to drive at 100 KM/Hr. It does seem slower but I got as low as 8.3l/100 kms. Driving at 120 gets you 11.7l/100kms. Wintertime, becaus...

Hmm, seems my "certified" Vibe right from the GM dealer here missed both the regular air filter, and the cabin air filter. The air filter wasn't real dirty, but it was a shock to see the cabin filter. :o People have no idea how fast they get clogged up. They are a once a year item as well....

Re: Tire season is almost here!

Most tires on that list under 90 bucks had pretty soft rubber, UTQGs ranging from 200 to 400 or so. For the Vibe, I like to stay 400 to 600+ numbers for durability. A couple of tires on that list showed numbers of 560 and 640. Right, that's what I look for too. In the long run saving 20 bucks a tir...

2009 Steering shaft clunking

I saw the other thread on the intermediate steering shaft on the 09-10 Vibe. I wanted to start a new post as to not Hi-jack the other one. My Vibe is an AWD, with the 2.4. The clunking is felt right in the wheel, it feels like a heavy rattle inside the actual wheel itself. It is only at low speeds i...

Make sure the shop uses a PRESS to install the bearings, NOT HAMMERS. When the hub is pressed in, make sure the center race is supported properly, or you will junk the bearing.

Its pet friendly I find as well. That plastic trunk might seem cheap-o, but I like the easiness of just wiping it down, and pet hair don't stick to it either! Keeping in mind, anytime you discharge a battery enough to dim the lights, you just lost 10-20 percent of its remaining life. Its worse when its freezing outside. If you must discharge a battery to that extent, consider a deep cycle battery. I found when I put a trickle charger on my cars that sit i...

Re: Running Wiring From Battery

Take care not to let any of the wire chafe on anything metal, as this will cause a short to ground very easily! This is why there is a fuse.. Have you considered getting a deep cycle battery? Automotive batteries are not designed for deep charge cycles. Don't forget also that most alternators are 10...

The Hankooks are expensive, even at cost. Everything else was at or close to near cost actually. Its also in Canada, we pay more for stuff here. Thats a nicly hidden bolt to get at. Never knew it was there till after I lined up mine. Thankfully, it was within specs!

BTW, keep those bolts oiled. Our northern climate is hard on them, and trying to adjust them after the car has reached a certain age, is a PITA!

Tire season is almost here!

I have 215/45r17's on my AWD Vibe. Tires that I was running were the Goodyear Eagle RS-A's, and they are complete garbage, IMHO. 4 brand new when I bought the car last year, and after 20,000 kms, they started getting noisy. It shouldn't be too hard to detect a noisy bearing... Jack up the vehicle, and let the suspension hang. Put the car in neutral. Check the bearings by wiggling the tire/rim assembly and checking for play. If you feel something moving, have an assistant check under the car with a light to see where th...
