Re: Vibe Transmission mount

OK, thanks a lot. Just saved me $$ on that mount. BTW, gmpartsoutlet.com has great prices on Fand R mounts.

Re: Vibe Transmission mount

Are you saying that the Toyota mount will fit the Vibe? I found a slightly better price, but it's only a few bucks.

Vibe Transmission mount

Does anyone know if these transmission mounts are interchangeable: GM 88969090/Toyota 12372-0D110. Aftermarket mounts show they are the same, but I want OE and I can't find any info as to whether Toyota will fit the Vibe. To look at them online, they appear identical. Needless to say, Toyota's mount...

Re: Rear Axle Bushings

It's a one time fix. Not looking to buy one, but to rent from local parts store. But, I doubt they'd have a tool that's so rarely used. I may have to rig something up. Apparently, I'm replacing something no one has done. I'm into preventative maintenance and, after 15 years, I figured it was time to...

Re: Rear Axle Bushings

You are correct about my car. '05 FWD. The bushings bolt in after you press the old ones out and press the new ones in. The tool I mentioned is shown in this video. Start watching at the 4:35 mark.

Rear Axle Bushings

Has anyone ever replaced the rear axle trailing link bushings? If so, where did you find the tool to remove/insert them?

Re: Quick Strut Recommendations?

If you're looking for OE replacement, Oredy is good, with lifetime warranty. I went thru 3 mfrs of defective struts, before I found Oredy. They ride nicely and take bumps well.

Steering Column

Does anyone know if a Gen 2 steering column can be retrofitted into a Gen 1 Vibe? I'd really like to have the telescoping feature.

Re: New improved serpentine belt tensioner

Can't say for sure about the 2zz engine. The tensioners look pretty much the same. Mine's a 1zz

Update: the listing says it'll fit an Matrix XRS which, I believe, is the 2zz engine, so it should fit the Vibe.

New improved serpentine belt tensioner

Found this on Ebay. For those of you who have gone nuts with the constant noise and failure of the hydraulic belt tensioner, this is a blessing. The Vibe isn't listed..... yet. They list Corolla (98-08) and Matrix (03-08), so I was sure it would fit the Vibe. And it does - I installed it on my '05. ...

I picked up another can of Duplicolor spray. Based on the cap, it looks like a good match. I'll find out tomorrow and post the results.

Re: Duplicolor Spray Paint

I hear you loud and clear. Any metallic paint is a pain in the a**. Any variation in the metallic content will change the color. And, even tho my paint is in good shape, it's 10 years old and spent 5 of them in the sun. So, even an o.e. paint probably won't match - but it might get close. I repainte...

Re: Duplicolor Spray Paint

I've also found suppliers of the paint, but I'm not interested in paying $25 w/shpg, for a 12 oz can, to touch up a very small area. And the bottles of touch up are useless. The problem with Duplicolor, Krylon, etc, when it comes to metallics, is the cap doesn't match what's in the can,.

Duplicolor Spray Paint

Duplicolor doesn't make a touch up spray paint for the '05 Platinum Vibe. Has anyone found a close match from the numerous "silver metallic" paint colors (not necessarily GM, either) they do offer?

Re: how reliable are the 1.8

The 1.8 is a tried and true engine. As TRB said, the Vibe is a Toyota Corolla drive train. As long as you take care of it, the car will take care of you. Do the necessary maintenance and don't wait 100k to change the trans fluid and coolant. I'm old-school and still change both at 50k. Actually, sin...

Re: Factory Radio Display

I wasn't, in any way, critiquing your excellent instructions for replacing the bulbs. And, I must have missed the comment about the bulbs not being bright enough. If it weren't for your instructions, I might have assumed the (costly) display burned out and trashed the radio. There seem to be a numbe...

Re: Factory Radio Display

Yes, everything else was working. That's what was puzzling me. Apparently that one circuit controlled only those 3 bulbs. One thing I might mention: the replacement bulbs recommended by Joatmon are smaller than the o.e. bulbs and, as a result are not as bright. The display is difficult to see during...

Re: Factory Radio Display

Whelp, I tore the radio apart and traced the circuit further. It took me to the main board. So out comes the CD unit and what do I find..... a 5" length of track that's burned. (Guess I accidentally put voltage to something I shouldn't have when I was bench testing  ). Fortunately, though...

Re: Factory Radio Display

Just a thought......On the 2009 Vibe...The dash light dimmer knob is the reset trip mileage push button. Just turn it to adjust the brightness of all the lights. Maybe that is your problem. But I don't know about the older Vibe Models. on the 1st gen vibes, the dimmer is in left of the steering whe...

Factory Radio Display

OK fellas, I need the electronics wizards on this one. I have an LCD backlighting problem. I had the unit apart to replace a burned out bulb. Now, even though all 3 bulbs are working (bench tested), they won't light up when I plug the unit in. Other than that, everything else works perfectly. What t...

Joatman, I'm not new to the forum - been registered with Genvibe for nearly 7 years, since I bought my '05 Vibe. Had to change my login though. I have a M&T with Sirius-XM. Other than the #$%&@* red display, I'm fairly happy with the stock unit. I'd like to find a way to hook up a usb/sd por...
