If memory serves me, it's the A246E transmission! If buying locally, buy both and return the one that doesn't match. Do be careful that the new filter is a perfect match for the old filter, especially concerning the "Dimples" that provide clearance for the tranny bolt heads above the mount...

Yes, I do the forced air flush on all my vehicles by removing the thermostat, then using the blower end of a Shop Vac hose over the radiator inlet. The forced air from the vacuum pushes all of the coolant in the radiator and around the block out in seconds without having to remove the knock sensors...

First check all fuses carefully in both fuse blocks. Essentially the only way the fan will not run on ANY speed is to have a bad blower motor OR no power to the blower motor! The AC condenser is more likely to become plugged with debris and therefore less efficient at removing heat as the miles accumulate. (250K miles!)

Also try running it from idle to 3000rpm in each individual gear - with and without overdrive, several times to see if you can determine a pattern.

Running the blower on high with a bad resistor will not harm anything. If you are getting electrical power to the resistor, the blower motor is likely shot. Try giving the dash a kick at the glove box area. The kick may "jump start" the blower motor, and if it doesn't at least you will fee...

Sounds like you lost (broken or jumped off pulleys) the serpentine belt. This belt drives the water pump, the alternator, and the power steering pump. Nothing that complicated, drive the car with the AC off (first thing in the morning!) and see if the problem still occurs. Mentioning AC usage in your first post would have likely had someone bring up this preliminary troubleshooting step.

I would not do a radiator flush before leaving UNLESS I had a trusted mechanic in Oregon, or the car was having cooling system issues. The slipping clutch is a big issue. Flushed 4 times with distilled water. Drained engine block with rear end raised. Flushed heater core. I'm going bigger when my Vibe poops out. Although probably not at least 7+ years away from needing a replacement, if I needed a new/used car today, I would be looking at the amazing competition in the small SUV category.
