Re: 03-05 Upgraded Oil Dipstick for 1ZZ-FE Motor

In another thread, micbarric posted a link to Toyota TSB 0134-08 which announces an upgraded oil dipstick for the 1ZZ-FE motor. http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...8.pdf The purpose of this is to add 1/2 qt of additional oil capacity to the engine, raising the oil refill capacity (with new filter) fro...

Re: Winter Tires = Different Vehicle

I really wanted the Weather Masters ST2 but they have been discontinued. I would have preferred a non-directional tire. The Evolution is the replacement for the ST2. I bet the Evolution provides a better steering response compared tot he ST2. We have the ST 2 on one car and General Tire Altimax arc...

Re: Winter Tires = Different Vehicle

Where you located? Geographical area(s)? Just curious how much snow you see in a typical winter? Nice write up and I can relate to being OCD as I too have the resources and equipment to fabricate just about anything out of metal. I second the idea of keeping a designated set of winters on preferabl...

Winter Tires = Different Vehicle

I have posted most of this already in an attempt to help another member in a different thread but I thought I would share my budget/practical mods with the rest of the crew here. After all, if the Vibe/Matrix crew doesn't appreciate it, no one will! My better half was suffering awful traction in the...

Re: sandbagging behind driver/passenger?

To answer the original question, yes, in theory adding weight to the vehicle via sandbags will increase the traction but it is important where the weight is placed. The passenger front seat floorboard would be the best place since it is a front wheel drive vehicle. This may not be practical if you n...

Re: Headrest Storage Solution

The brackets are incredibly strong. I was expecting them to be a lot more flexible post machining but they retained a lot of strength.

Thanks for sharing!

Headrest Storage Solution

Hello again everyone. It has been a while since I last posted here. I guess that is what happens when your car is reliable. :) I am posting in regards to the headrest storage, or lack thereof in Vibes and Matrixs when the back seats are folded down. We like to haul our dogs around in the Vibe so alm...

Re: Stronger Springs and Struts for rear suspension

I am wondering the same thing. I started a thread asking if the all wheel drive rear coils would work on the rear of a base front wheel drive but no one chimmed in. I am ASSUMING the awd coils are longer but do not know for sure. I am basing this off of the fact awd models sit 2-3" taller. All ...

Re: New Vibe

Thanks for the link. So we bought the Vibe because I have owned a few Toyotas and have became comfortable with them. I order all of my parts from our local dealer but then he matches any online prices that I come up with as long as it is genuine Toyota parts. My question is just how many of the part...

New Vibe

Well the Ms. justed picked herself up a 2003 Vibe Base with 63,000 miles on it. We were looking at both the Vibe and the Matrix but settled on the Vibe. We settled on the Vibe due to its grey plastic cladding (live on gravel road), the 115V inverter is handy and the platform on the back of the passe...

AWD Coils On Rear Of FWD

I know that the AWD Vibes are taller than the FWD models. Is this additional heigth due to a taller coil springs or just a spacer to achieve the lift? If the coil is in fact taller I am wondering if a person could swap out the FWD rear coils for rear AWD coils. I would think this would be nice if a ...

Re: Potential Vibe Owner

Thank you for the information.

So I take it the manual trans are not very reliable? Can you explain? I am interested in this because I would prefer a manual trans but the Ms. would like an auto.

Thanks in advance.

Potential Vibe Owner

Hello all, I am a Toyota loyalist so given the Vibe is basically a Toyota I feel comfortable purchasing one, or at least inquiring about one! :) I have been going back and forth between the Vibe and the Matrix for quite some time now. The requirements in my Vibe hunt are the following: 2008 white ba...
