I fixed my "no recirc" problem by gluing in a pad (just above the filter area) to keep the flap from closing too hard against the stop when going into the "fresh air" position. Now the flap always moves into the recirc position when I push the button. (Before it would sometimes w...

The area of the tire's contact patch won't change much at all, if the tire pressure is the same. It will be narrower for the 195 tire, but it will be longer in the other direction.

All other things being equal, not only should a 195/65R15 tire have better snow traction than a 205/55R16, but it will cost about $25 less.In the 1980's, it was common for small cars to have 155/80R13 tires, and I remember switching to 175/70R13 tires on the same rims. That was supposed to improve d...

Re: Dropping tire rim size for winter - is it worth it ? (sagittarius)

Most or all Camry wheels won't work; they have a different bolt pattern. Some VW and Audi wheels should be pretty close, but I think your best bet is to salvage 5-lug wheels from smaller Toyotas - Corolla, Matrix, Celica. Some Scions too, most likely, and maybe the smaller Lexus models. For well unde...

Similar problem solved in a way that seems too easy to be true

I'm not getting any noise, but the recirculation button doesn't do anything. I still get air blowing through the vents with the button pressed and the fan off.Is this also caused by a bad gear?[By the way, for the 2005's generation at least, the Corolla and Matrix use the same cabin filter, which is...

Re: (jkm311) Rear Brake Squeak (Pauldog)

I just found this:http://matrixowners.com/index....queak/ ... ueak/There are 6 lubrication points on the backing plate of the drum. Another possibility is squeaky springs. Are springs more likely to be the cause if the squeak happens even when the car isn't moving?

Re: (jkm311) Rear Brake Squeak

I have this problem, too, but I don't know if it's one side or both sides. It's definitely coming from the rear brakes and not happening inside the passenger compartment. Whether the car is sitting still or moving, I get a single short squeak when I press on the brake pedal and again when I release ...
