Great score. On the water in the spare tire thing, it could be a simple thing as the guy lift the tailgate up to remove things out of the cargo area and a quick rain storm rolled though and water seeped into the spare tire well(I had an Impreza that did that) Did you check the tail lights? if a bulb...
Good luck with your new car. It looks stylish and they are nice to drive. I am having thoughts about getting rid of my Vibe also. It sits most of the time due to it being a manual and having to commute in horrible traffic and its carrying/hauling duties are taken over by the 2012 Scion XB and the 19...
I cannot figure out Toyota and the direction of Scion. They drop both the XB and the XD,two cars that are actually practical(as ugly as the XB is, I can actually fit more in my XB then my Vibe and the XD is a sensible gas saving commuter) The Tc is nothing more then Toyota's Chevy Beretta(all show a...
I cannot say I am too shocked over this. Toyota customer service blows. My experience with Toyota/Scion customer service regarding my 2012 Scion XB means that I will never buy another Toyota product http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-03-26/ford-gm-trump-toyota-in-customer-loyalty-experian-says.html?...
Sounds like ether the lifter collapsed or is stuck or has crud stuck in it. Did you try adding a little bit of trans fluid(a half qt) to the engine and driving it about 200 or so miles and then chenge out the oil and add 5W into it? See if that works, trans fluid has detergents in it and should clea...
As for the warning about Suzi pulling out and not supporting the cars, look out for Toyota also as they pretend the Scion brand don't exist when it comes time to repair it under warranty.
Oh and the Scion forums are not as nice as Genvibe
Good luck with your choices
I like the looks of the Sonic but when I sat in one at the dealer it felt too small for me. I am hoping for a hatchback cruze to come to the USA and then I would dump my Vibe. I am very impressed with the Cruze
Sorry for the delay but the rain put a crimp in picture taking. Here are some down and dirty pics of the car. I emphasize dirty as the interior is one of the most dingy and dirty interiors I have ever been in :o The former owner had dogs and it has a lot of dog hair in it and dog stickers The rear s...
The 00-05 Rio was what it was a cheap car(it was the cheapest on the market at the time) Not really reliable as I worked at Win Kelly Chevy when it owned a Isuzu and Kia franchise and some of those Rio's would come off the truck with bad engines or trans But this Rio could be excused as up till 2010...
So I got a new toy from Creigslist: A 1993 Subaru Impreza with the 1.8l 112,745 miles on it. I got it for $900. It looks good for its age and will make a good commuter car. It makes a cheap ABS/Airbag?AWD winter beater car. It has a few issues 1. Pass fender was replaced and the replacement was one ...
Your smart skipping the Euro luxury cars and going with the Lexus. In the end you will just have routine maintenance on it instead of 50 million repairs on a BMW or Benz. I am sorry but if I shell out $50,000 on a BMW or Benz or any luxury car I expect it to be uber reliable or at least more reliabl...
I would stick with your credit union whom you can truly trust. That dealer is going to try to get you to get a loan from Ally Bank (formerly known as GMAC) Ally Bank is nothing but a true bunch of crooks. The local GM dealer tried to hook me with "financing" through Ally a while back and I...
I liked the spare tire on the rear of the RAV because I thought it was integrated well enough and the spare tire cover was plastic instead of the usual cloth cover. I did not like how the spare tire was in a sense a rear bumper since Toyota did not see fit to add a real rear bumper The CRV is still ...
I think this car is geared up to compete against the Kia Rio and the Hyundai Accent which are making lots of gains against Honda and Toyota. Did you see that new Avalon? It looks like a stretched Hyundai Sonata with more shiny chrome  As for the Prius C what is the point to this car? It is abo...
Yes Toyota will sell you the complete bulb/socket. They will not sell the socket part on its own(at least in the Toyota dealers in my area. My guess is that your missing part will fall down at you when you drop the map light housing.
Well I got some good news for you. I don't think there is any damage at all to the map light and your map light housing is fine. What you have in the map light is a T3 194 wedge base bulb in a removable plastic housing(bulb socket) Here is a pic of the bulbs from my spare map light housing for my no...
It might be able to be glued and fixed. Can you take a pic of your map light. I see pics of the sunroof map light for 03-08 but not 09-10 You cannot buy that part from GM anymore. BUT you can get the part from Toyota as it fits 2009-2012 Matrix http://www.partswebsite.com/autopartspeople/index.php?i...
Thanks for the offer 'tpollauf'....appreciate it. Well, got a couple new knobs today ($9.40 each at dealership).....Decided to just remove the 'lip' on each of them.....shaved them down with a Dremel griding wheel bit....10 minutes later, they're installed. Might be a little light let through, but ...
To both of you newer members. I wish I had seen this post earlier because I have several brand new radio knobs for 2009-10 Vibes and they were given to me by a former GenVibe member. If I knew your location (hint ... hint ... Update it in your profile please) I could have made arrangements to get t...
No regrets on the Vibe at all. However I have regretted buying the XB from day one. I like the car but try getting anything done at a Toyota under warranty :x I wonder how many of the Matrix owners that said they would not buy it again said this because of having to deal with Toyota and its arroganc...
One of the things I wanted to see at the dealer was this FRS, it was a hot seller the past few months and I never got to see one in person At Carmax Toyota/Scion there were two. This silver one for $25,000 and a purplish one for close to $30,000 http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/eckell4/IMG-2...
So I went to the Toyota dealer for a oil change and service on my XB and I noticed a few Matrix and all were 2013. The cheapest one was $20,000 (still more then a Corolla) and as I looked into the area next to the shifter where there was once only a AUX jack, now there are a AUX jack and a USB jack ...
The waterpump being hard or easy depends on your commitment, If you only have 30 mins to get the job done then it will be a pain in the back end, if you can devote 2-4 hours on a nice day to it it will go easy and you will be able to half the time the next water pump change. It is not like the water...
On the Club ScionTC forum there is a guy that thinks his 2008 TC has a headgasket issue and a person at the bottom of the post talked about the headbolts stripping http://clubsciontc.com/forums/maintenance-repair-58/is-my-head-gasket-shot-08-tc-40760/" onclick="window.open(this.href);retur...
Congrats on your pay off. I remember when I bought my first car I had to make payments on(a Ford Focus). When I got to the last $100 before payoff, instead of waiting till that next paycheck(I had it automatically taken out of my checks each month9bi weekly) ) I withdrew that $100 from my checking a...
Sucks to hear that Vibe is gone but glad you are all ok. Cars can be replaced. If she likes the Velostar and wants an SUV might I suggest the Kia Sorento? It is made by KIA but KIA is owned by Hyundai and the Sorento is a great SUV with good MPG's and a nice ride. My best friend has always owned VW'...
Congrats on your new truck. That sticker price maybe in Canadian dollars BUT it could very well be in USA dollars also. There was a 2012 Silverado in the local Chevy dealer for $50,000 :o It used to be trucks were cheaper then cars and folks used them for work or outdoors stuff, but at $50,000 that ...
Congrats. Kia and Hyundai have stepped up their game and the Optima finally looks noticeably different then its Sonata sibling. That Kia "tiger nose" Grill they have been using the last few years. I think you will enjoy it. Can you post pics of the inside? Is the climate controls as ugly l...
So with all that Jag goodness Millster was showing off I figured I would show off my latest car. It is a Swedish icon, the 240 series. Mine is a 1990 wagon. I was looking for a reliable, cheap to maintain Euro car(yes I know those words don't belong in the same sentence  But the Volvo 240/700 s...
Before chalking up the low PSI to the incompatibility of the gauge and the GM sender, go through the testing procedures for the sending unit. GM is the worlds leader of making junk oil pressure sending units. That sound like a bad sending unit more then anything(the gauge just reads electrical signa...
Is it a 1980's Jaguar XJ6 with the GM engine and transmission conversion? If it was converted right it is super reliable. It is really sad that to get reliability in a car that was super expensive in the era it was made(cost more then most GM cars) you have to put a engine and transmission in the ca...
Nice!! Are the wheels alloy or just hubcaps over steel wheels? I think I would have preferred steel wheels to alloy since VW brought back the vintage style dog dish VW hubcaps which I think makes the car look very vintage looking(I like the dog dish caps) The car looks much in its 2012 design then t...
Is that the Achiva with the 2.4l 4cyl Quad motor or the V6? I always liked the looks of those much better then the Buick version (Skylark) As for the Vibe. That mileage is still very young(try adding a 3 in front of the 67,452 and then worry about high mileage  ) It is a Toyota motor and I expe...
Nice looking Olds! As I mentioned before, an 81 Cutlass LS was my first car. I learned all kinds of stuff working on that car. I'd forgotten all the changes they made to the later models, with the steering wheel and the different light switches and such. If you really want a rare one, how about the...
That was a great platform. I had an '82 Monte Carlo and secretly preferred the Cutlass Supreme for its more plush interior. Your Buick 3.8 was a far better engine than my Chevy 3.8 (229 cu in.) for certain. 80's GM headliners flapping in the breeze are par for the course -- mine was held up with th...
Back in July I came upon a ad in Craigslist for a nice condition 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme for $1000. I said what the heck? Why not. I can never turn down a nice old car(especially and Oldsmobile and one for $1000) so I bought it. It is a 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass sedan(the sedan is rare and onl...
I liked the looks of the PT Cruiser(except for the convertible which looked odd with its 2 doors and the trunk lid) I also liked how it drove. I got to drive a 5spd manual for a while) but I did not like how much of a pain it was to work on. Nothing like removing loads of stuff for routine maintenan...
That Olds in better shape than the Impala I'm restoring. What a shame. :( None of the salvage yards around here have cool old cars like that any more. This junk yard always has cool old stuff. It is one of a chain of pick it pull it junk yards called Crazy Ray's in Maryland. A $1 gets you in and yo...
Being a former GM J-Body car owner, it's pretty neat seeing a Cimarron! Definitely one of the rarest, if not the [/i] rarest of all the GM J-Body cars. The reason you don't see many of the Caddies at the junk yard anymore is because folks found out that the interior(including the plush power seats)...
So last week I bought a nice condition(well nice for a 27 year old car) 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sedan. I had a 1987 several years ago and liked it and since it only cost me $1000 for the car and only adds $260 a year on my insurance, I said what the heck and bought it. I wanted to get a few things f...
One of my hobbies is restoring/fixing old radios, clocks or other vintage electronics A few months ago I came across a 1959 Zenith model G730 AM-FM tube radio at a thrift ship for $5.00 and took it home. After letting it sit for a few weeks, I finally stopped screwing around and got cracking on rest...
It is quite hot. Here is a pic of the outside temp in the Mazda3 loaner car while this pic was taken last year around this time, the mood and situation fits as the other day I was driving my Scion and it hit this temp. So this pic is still relevant :) Every year it seems Maryland seems to corner the...
Did you look at the Kia Soul or Scion XB? The XB is compact on the outside and has loads of room inside especially with the back seats down. I get about 27-28 mpg driving start and stop traffic and a mix of highway and city. Yes the Camry engine in it is not the greatest gas miser but it does make t...
A good cheaper alternative to the scangauge is the Ultragauge. It is cheaper then Scangauge (It cost me about $78($69 +7.95) ) and has a bigger screen then SGII which is good in the sunlight and also good in the night It is a company based in the USA and I got my unit in 3 days I wanted an OBDII gau...
Happy Canada Day/Fête du Canada to all of our Canadian Genvibers. Hope you are able to fire up the grill and knock back some cold ones to celebrate Canada's 145th Birthday
Love me some Hair Nation, and Boneyard! Heck yes! I love Ozzy's Boneyard too \m/! A bit off topic, but I went to see Rock of Ages the other day. It was awesome, especially if you love 80s Hair Metal! I highly recommend it to my fellow Hair Metal fans ;)! Ozzy huh? Here you go http://i1108...
If it has the V8 in it then go for it as they are nice to drive and have scorching power. It will be a collectors item one day as one of the last muscle cars. Like the 2004-2006 GTO If it is the V6 version then pass. You would be better off with a Pontiac G6 with the hardtop convertible, then a V6 G...
