Asking price for 2009 Vibe with bad engine

Our Vibe engine with about 230K miles just died. Will only run a few minutes, some nasty noise coming near top end of engine. 5spd car, good body, bought new in vermont. It's more of a project than I can take on. What would be a fair asking price as a parts car or candidate for engine swap?

I just finished the install. The Raybestos was a perfect fit. Happy camper.

Re: 2009 parking brake cable

Update. Ordered a Raybestos cable from Rock Auto. They had the measurements which are exactly the same as my OEM. Apparently 1.8L and 2.4L are different as well as the manual and automatic transmission. Will post results after installing.

Re: 2009 parking brake cable

Hi,
Yes I have looked at the matrix parking brake cables but not sure if they are close to the same length. I was hoping somebody else had tried one.

2009 parking brake cable

I'm trying to find a replacement cable for the passenger/right hand side. OEM number is supposed to be 19184307. 1.8L base manual 5 speed, 206K in Vermont. I've got mine off the car and have it hanging trying to get a light weight oil to run down it and free it up. It is much better but I'm not sure...

Re: Which lugnuts for 03-04 alloy wheels?

Thanks guys! Mystery solved. Now I need to decide whether to sell the rims get conventional ones or get a set of tuner lugnuts.

Re: Which lugnuts for 03-04 alloy wheels?

Thanks for posting the pictures. I appreciate that. I'm still searching the net for info on this particular ARE rim but nothing yet. The problem with the rims is that there is little clearance for a socket as well as no clearance for the car's lug wrench. And the clearance hole seems to be particula...

Re: Which lugnuts for 03-04 alloy wheels?

Thanks everyone for the advice. The pictures are great. I believe my mags are different from the ones photographed where the lug nuts pass through. (it could be that the previous owner was mistaken about the year of her Vibe) I measured approx. 28mm+ to almost 29mm in diameter at the top and somewhe...

Which lugnuts for 03-04 alloy wheels?

I recently purchased a used set of factory alloy rims off a 2003 or 04 Vibe in hopes of using them on our 2009 Vibe. Ours came with factory steel rims so I knew that I would need new mag-seat type of lugnuts. I picked up a set of M12-1.5 x42mm but they don't seem to be anywhere near long enough. The...

Re: Rear Brake overheating many attempts to fix

I believe I have the brakes fixed. No more heat, no more extensive pad wear. Almost two weeks, around 500 miles or more with no issues. Everything running cool. I just pulled the wheel and checked rotor and pads. They are fine. So here's where I screwed up. I keep maintenance records of our vehicles...

Re: Rear Brake overheating many attempts to fix

Hi. Thanks for the info. You are correct there are no sheet metal shims. The retainer clips are new. I will try and buy some shims today. I did check the back plate and it is not rubbing. The rotor was replaced about a month ago but yesterday I did clean off some residual rust buildup that the pad m...

Re: Rear Brake overheating many attempts to fix

Hi. Thanks for the tip. I had forgotten to mention in my last post that I did change that brake hose yesterday. We didn't drive the car today because of the grinding sound as soon as the piston starts to self-adjust putting pressure on the inner pad. I also checked to make sure that the wear indicat...

Re: Rear Brake overheating many attempts to fix

Hi. The ABS light does come on with initial power on (dashboard test) but does go out once vehicle is running. Have never had it on that I'm aware off. The E-brake does return all the way to the stop and I have watched this while my wife is actuating the brake. The rotor turns freely as it should. I...

Re: Rear Brake overheating many attempts to fix

Thanks everyone for the tips! I'm in the middle of the repair right now. I've just installed a new brake hose and pads. The thought was that the original brake hose might be collapsing internally and not allowing fluid to return. One thing I am not positive on is the location of the pad with the wea...

Rear Brake overheating many attempts to fix

I have a 2009 Vibe FWD with about 120K on it. My wife is the primary driver and is very gentle with the car. I've done several dozen brake jobs in my life but this one is throwing me a big curve. It might be something simple but I can't seem to fix it. In the last 8 weeks or so I've changed the driv...

09 Cargo Box interfers with antenna

The way our roof rack (factory toyota) and the Thule cargo box sits it prevents the use of the factory antenna. We have removed it but of course loose the radio signal. Has anyone come up with a threaded adapater or different antenna that would work?

Thank you very much. We got the piston to fully retract and "exercised" it a few times so they aren't heating up like they did the first time. However, I do not recall lining up the inner pad with the caliber piston. So I will go back in and check. Thanks@! ps superb pics/descr. on your li...

Hi. There is a partial metal plate on the back of the pads. I'm not quite sure what you are referring to but I will check the pads again.

2009 new pads/rotors getting too hot?

I justed changed the rear rotors and pads with Duralast and their ceramic pads. They only have about 30 miles on them and when my wife came home you could smell them in the garage and the right wheel was quite hot and the rotor certainly couldn't be touched. I jacked the car up and the wheel does mo...

Rotor recommendations

We have a 2009 Vibe 1.8L 2WD that needs rear and probably front rotors/pads at 45000 miles. I've done a number of brake jobs in my life but frankly I'm not sure which rotors to buy. We want OEM quality but not expensive aftermarket high performance ones. I've purchased from Rock Auto before and have...
