Re: DTC P0420 - No Driveability Issues (joatmon)

I'm sure you know this but I thought I'd bring it up; The older 1zzfe engine had a problem with either the valves or the piston rings (pretty sure the rings), such that oil would seep into (I believe, been some time since I read about this) the intake. Now, I don't know how much, if any of what I've...

Re: New wheels and chrome grille inserts (colterk)

I did mine with a cheap dollar brush and a can of plasticote. It was on clearance at that so it cost me $1.90 and an hour in time. Left the break gear on the car, brushed it on 2 coats and it looks great. I didn't take my wheels off though, (I was very careful, no drips) and there's a few bare spots...

Brake clunk

I've look to see if I can find anything about this but didn't find any solid solution.2003 base, drums in back. When I apply the breaks, especially between 45-25 they make a consistent clunking that varies in speed with the car. The best think I can compare it to is the sound of hitting a pothole wi...

Pre trip maintanence...

Hello all, I'd like to get some advice on any maintenance I should take care of before taking a 600 mile trip from rural Ohio to rural New York in my 2003 fwd automatic with 214000 miles on it. Also, I'll be there for 6 months so, anything I should be aware of as far as up keep that New Your require...

Re: (skimask)

I've got an 03, had a similar issue. I doubt this will be too helpful but, worth throwing out there.I have had a handful of instances where the car would crank and either fail to start or run very rough for 3 seconds and sputter out. Every one of these has been after filling the tank. I let it set s...

Re: Looking to be a new vibe owner... (hagger19)

I'm an 03 owner, 201100 miles, still running strong, I think I need to replace the catalytic convert though. 2nd owner, the previous owner kept a very thorough log of the maintenance and the most major thing that has been done was replacement by me of the Transmission filter and pan gasket. I know t...

Fuel Filler Neck....

I've tried searching the forum as well as google and several auto parts stores... Nothing for a new fuel neck for my 03 vibe. Also tried like year Matrix and Corollas but still nothing. The seal edge is pretty nasty with pitted corrosion, I sanded it down with emery cloth about 6 months back, I don'...

Re: (MotoAce51)

Well, CEL has been on for over 6 months for 0420. I check it every so often to be safe but it's always 420. I havn't bothered to try a new cat yet. As for connections, all good. I did a little more research mean time and it seems that the MAF has to be positioned just so in the air flow. I won't lik...

CAI/SR install quandary

Last night I, after much effort and a bit of bracket fabrication, installed a custom Spectre intake (autozone tubes) that I pulled from my old 99 corolla. I triple checked that all my hoses were connected and sensors plugged in. Nothing that was supposed to be attached somewhere was loose. I even ma...

You're certain it's the A/C? I don't know if they all have it,... but my 03 with navigation has speed compensated volume. If the volume is down all the way I get a whine audiable from the radio/sensor.

Just throwing out my experience with Amsoil,... I had a 99 corolla, same engine, less enhanced. I switched to ams at 160k... no one ever gave me any hint that it might not be wise to change it on a car that old with that many miles. (And maybe those were not factors) Prior to this I never lost any o...

Hello, (first time poster) I'm starting to get the sinking feeling I'll need to do this soon. Replaced the O2s and cleaned my MAF, CEL came on 20-30 miles again after each and today the exhaust smelled more rich than I've ever had. I'm guessing with 182+++ it will need it soon anyway and to get to m...
