Random, If you would really rather not replace your car I think you should take it to a garage that is willing to work on it. What I mean is if you have not kept up on maintenance you need to find out how bad the damages are. Have them start with compression test.Find out if it is one , two ,three o...
Random , Sorry for your situation . Don't know where your located but in Michigan. If you have time for a repair you may want to look into your local high school / vocational center. They will take cars in for repairs ( student training) and all you are ever charged is for parts NO LABOR. They are a...
Just a side note...... I don't like to disagree with members so sorry for this. I have heard this said by several people on here but you do not need ac to defrost or defog your windows in a car. The reason your compressor runs when you put your car on defrost is to keep the pump ( compressor ) and s...
ZenVibe What is happening is you clutch is wearing out that is why it slips. Your list of expected problems are what would happen if it needed bleeding , slave or master cylinder problems or pressure plate failure.
Browning , Make sure you turn the blower down or off when you park your car if you leave it on high you are just making it harder to gain heat. You may also want to make sure you cooling fan is no stuck on drawing air all the time. You might have a stat issue but it could also be water pump getting ...
CARA , That is your main problem you need to fix the REC. MOTOR for your defrost setting to work ( windshield ). If you still have a problem after the repair you should make sure your heater core is not cracked or leaking. GOOD LUCK!
JMcQ11, Congratulations on your purchase. If you are going to buy from Toyota it is easier to get a vin from a Matrix of the same year I got mine from Auto Trader it is for a 08 VIN 2T1KR32E88C716445. Most things are similar between 06 - 08 Vibes. Good Luck Mike PS... Do the IM Gasket and related fi...

dannyboy, If your gasket has never been replaced you should replace it. I am from a family of 4 vibes with varying mileage. My 08 has 85,000 miles OEM gasket leaked in three cylinders. Younger brothers 05 has 130,000 miles OEM gasket leaked in three cylinders. Older brothers 08 has 100,000 miles fle...
You may want to make sure the shifter cables are routed and anchored properly from the clutch change. If the cables are loose or binding under the hood the shifter may not center in neutral the way it is suppose too.
Hey Ken, See you finely got into it. Hopefully everything came apart with out issue. Looks like rookie night under the tree. What you have is a pressure plate that was not reinstalled properly. It was probably not marked for reassembly and tightened in a circular pattern. That causes the pres...
I haven't messed with it yet, but what are the symptoms of low manual transmission fluid? Engine oil instead of the gear lube in the tranny? Maybe there's a possibility the guy thought it was a Honda and put 10w30 in there? Or he messed up the axle seals and the stuff leaked out Ken , Low gear oil ...
mr.clutch wrote:Looking Good Ken,
You were not kidding about it being dirty.
i'm dreading the clutch job.
I would think so if you are starting with the interior. But you had to clean it anyhow so order is not that important.
Is the white one your families too.
One more question. What determines the clutch slave cylinder pin's resting position? Will adjusting the pedal adjustment give me more slave pin travel? Think of it as a drum brake cylinder with only one piston in it there is a shoulder that it rest on. The travel on the slave is determined by the v...
Giswaff, I drive 08 1st gen but am with Chiadog 205 60 16 is what I run. If I wasn't driving for gas mileage it would be 215/225 60 16 for foot print and side wall height. Living in the pot hole capitol of the world tread width and sidewall height are very important. Just going from 55 series oem to...
Have you checked out that website with the directions? Do they look good? I have They were pretty good write ups /videos but my time under cars always tells me DO NOT UNDER ESITMATE a job. The ones that are simple can be nightmares & jobs that you are planning to take a lot of time go so smooth...
Ken if you think that only the disc was replaced that may explain the loud squeak when you depress the clutch. Pressure plates should not be reused because off the heat and centrifugal balance. If you are going to reuse one you must mark the PrPl to flywheel relationship failure to do so will usuall...
Ken Any way to do it without an engine host? The answer is no but you should have a way to support the engine from the top. The reason why is by supporting a engine from the pan compresses the gasket and can cause oil pan leaks. I was searching about fork problems and came across this video. http://...
Are you saying that I should be able to push that lever side to side and feel the bearing slide? Yes But don't get me wrong the movement will not be a lot if you look at some of the pictures you have links on. You will see the pivot ball that the fork locks onto. The fork will only be able to move ...
Ken I this is not meant to sound bad but you should stop trying to push it into gear because that puts a lot of wear on the sycro rings. Some play on the release fork is normal but the play should be forward and back (pass side to drivers side) not top to bottom. If you move it around you should fee...
Ken, I don't know what your talents are with a car but you could do it in a drive way. I have never seen the Toyota disc and pressure plate but some off the things you have said are usually impossible. Such as: Disc installed backwards they are not able to be installed back wards because the disc wi...
Ken, Was the youtube link off you car? If it was travel look good doesn't seem likely to be pedal adjustment either. As for the throw out bearing if it were hydraulic I would think a possibility but it is just a bearing and most times when they fail they chatter or squeal. If it had sieged? it shoul...
KEN,Just to reply on some of the postings. You asked about intermittent working. It was not working what you were doing was forcing FIRST GEAR and with a partly disengaged clutch you can shift most times with out issue. That is because your trans is fully synchronized in all forward gears. (not rever...
Ken, Just so you can stop thinking it is mechanical in the clutch pry the release fork back and secure it. Start the car and see if you can put it in gear I am sure you will be able too.
I've heard bleed the lines. Ken , It may seem unlikely to you but it sounds like you still have air in the system. First when you replaced a master cylinder (brake or clutch) you should bench bleed it before you install. Second Sometimes a slave because of the release fork pressure can hold a air bu...
Interested, but have a question - were you able to use your stock shift knob and boot with this, or would I need to go aftermarket for a heavier knob and shorter boot? SY, I did not like the shape and feel of the. stock shift knob for the car so I have a custom homemade one that I use. The stock bo...
Kaflex, I am not sure this is your problem. You my want to pull your panel off and check out your ac/recirculate buttons. Their is some type of linkage that runs between the mode dial and the button pack. It could just be sticking and not letting you turn the dial. Good Luck.
Pointbob not sure what you mean about idle 750 in drive is right for most cars. Your noise problem sounds like it may be your tensioner for your drive belt (serpintine?) . Some times when they go bad they chatter at idle. Good luck hope you find it.

I was on the Autozone site looking at front brake pads and hardware for my 08 today. When looking at the pads for it they had two different sets avail. 1 for Jan 08 and before & 1 for Feb 08 and later. Mine being 09/07 I was the first set. BUT... That raised a question to me???? Was there a chan...
Ok I don't usualy chime in but this question is a true safty issue. First off you NEVER USE ONLY THE BRAKES!!!! it is not about wearing them out or replacement not even rotor warp. What happens to your brakes is that when you over heat them they glaze over and start too fade ( as in NOT WORK at all) ...

Could not handle the snow tires & steelies any longer. Its been so warm I felt like all i was doing was destroying my snow tires. So after just ten weeks of running them I am back too summer. I was just wondering if any one else had same opinion/idea. PLUS.... A question I heard that when storin...
vhoward1122 You said the car only has 20k on it. So my guess is it is not driven much so to wait and push it to Aug. or beyond is possible . BUT..... A bearing weather it be a rod ,wheel ,or in your case a throw out bearing starts to fail (ie. chatter, grind ,or clearance) it is a gamble as to when ...
The throw out bearing in a modern car is hydraulic.Which means it will make contact with the pressure plate at all times ( it is known as a constant run T.O.B.) it must make contact because it has to maintain hydraulic pressure just like your brakes. So under load (clucth pushed in) the bearing will...
Just my two cents but you may want to check all four wheels for drag. you might have a brake hanging up. You may also have a bent wheel or a alignment problem. As for tring to start in second gear with a auto they will still start in first.
Last year I drove 600 plus miles (There & Back) from Westland MI. down to Dry Ridge Ky. so I could purchase my 08 Base with 55,000 miles on the clock. It was a good deal too $7,500.00 with power windows /locks and most important a 5 spd.
